Hodges Motorsports Update - Canyon Speedway
Well it was an adventurous day for a lack of better words. It all started as a normal race day heading to Canyon Raceway in Peoria, AZ, but that changed when the tongue of the trailer broke off flush with the front of the trailer. Off the side of I-40, we had enough people to get things figured out so my dad could head down the road with the car in another trailer, and parts and tools went with the Ortega's. A HUGE thanks to the Ortega's, Jody Williams, Steve Cushman, and many others. My dad got to the racetrack just before mud-packing where I was waiting because I had flown out of Albuqueruque with Derrik Ortega and Frank Fanelli earlier in the day, trying to stay in school. When he got there, we threw a gear in the car and set the engine with just enough time to roll in the track so we could keep our starting spot. I started second in the third heat race with Derrik back in the third. The track was tacky and fast, and the car felt good, but could have been better. I got the win in the heat, which put me in the draw where I drew number 7. The track stayed exactly the same the whole night and we made very little changes. After one false start, we got under way, and I felt the car do an abrupt bike through 1 & 2. The car was extremely tight, and I drove about half the race before pulling in after it got worse and worse. The LR shock had pulled apart, making the car lay over on the RR. I was so tight I was having trouble even aiming the car. So after a day to forget, we'll hit it again tomorrow, taking the top off here at Canyon. Once again thank you to all who helped us out, and a big congratulations to Derrik Ortega and the crew for showing their muscle in the first start of the season, after a nasty wreck at this very track last season. It was certainly an impressive showing.
