Back in the Wing of things...
Wayne Helliwell Jr’s 2013 schedule is already shaping up to be equally as busy as years past. He will once again pilot the Ed & Bobby Witkum owned winged supermodified. 2013 will mark the third full season in the open wheel class; all three of which have come behind the wheel of the Witkum Brothers Racing machine.
Helliwell’s consistency in the car has netted the Team a runner up in points in 2012, a division championship in 2011 and back to back NASCAR Whelen All-American New Hampshire state titles.
He will again return to weekly racing action at the New Hampshire oval, Lee USA Speedway. A track he has called home since 1992. Helliwell who is one of the winningest drivers in the tracks history will look for his 9th division championship.
Also returning in 2013 is longtime friend and supporter Scherbon Consolidated Inc. The Scott Scherbon owned Emergency Power & Waste Water Pumping Systems Company will once again adorn the sides of the 21 machine.
Helliwell who earned the most points from mid-point of the season on says the Team is not resting on that consistency and plans to hit the New Year in full force. “We finished the year strong and showed we could run in the top three every week. But at the same time we need to be better.”
To be better the Witkum Brothers will bring a brand new self-designed chassis for him pilot. New ideas have the Dover, NH driver excited for the upcoming season. “I’m a chassis guy; the whole process of building a new car is as exciting as racing one to me. The new car looks great. I’m looking forward to it…
Looking to rebound from second place in overall points Helliwell looks to reclaim the top spot. “We let one get away last year. But we've put that behind us and are focused on being consistent from start to finish…
The 2013 Lee USA Speedway schedule will be uploaded when it becomes available.
