4-Time Ford Champion
Wayne Helliwell Jr. and the Bruce Bernhardt owned EKeys-4-Cars, Unique Ford Fusion Team are once again Ford Blue Oval Challenge Cup Champions. The program put together by Ford Racing gives Teams competing with S347JR Ford power-plants the chance at some extra money throughout the season. The best of 18 finishes are totaled to crown a champion each year.
The problem for everyone else… Wayne Helliwell Jr.. Helliwell who consistently competes in minimum of 20 full fenders events each year; has won the title going away in its three-years of existence.
Heading into the final event for the 2013 championship at Riverside Speedway, the Blue Oval standings were the closest in its history. Just one point separated Helliwell from rival American Canadian Tour competitor Joey Polewarczyk Jr.; as the battle for the almost $3,000 Championship would play out at the track known as Grovtona.
Helliwell would go on to earn a 5th place finish in the Fall Brawl 200. Coupled with a mid-race accident not of his doing, Polewarczyk would be relegated to 20th overall. The results, a fourth straight Blue Oval title for Helliwell.
“When they announced the program four-years ago, Bruce and I really wanted to do whatever it took to win it,” said Helliwell. “It’s a program that rewards consistency and racing as much as you can... So that really fits our Team. Mike [Delahanty] and everyone from Ford Racing have been great to work with over the years. To have Ford give back to the local racer with an opportunity such as the Blue Oval Cup is really great. We’ve had our most successful years with Ford power under the hood. I’m proud of Bruce and everyone on the Team to bring home another title.”
Helliwell with his Bernhardt Motorsports machine has won almost 50 races with Ford power and have become the winningest asphalt driver in the country with a S347JR under the hood. Something Ford's Director of Short Track Racing Mike Delahanty says he's happy to have them on their side.
Wayne, Bruce and the rest of the Helliwell & Bernhardt Team are the hardest working Late Model Team in the country,” said Delahanty. “[Once again] that hard work paid off with another Ford Racing Blue Oval Challenge Cup; not to mention another ACT Championship. All of us at Ford Racing feel lucky to have these guys on the Blue Oval Team.”
