Wayne Helliwell Jr
A 6 Pack
After rain won the previous week at Canaan Fair Speedway the Bruce Bernhardt Motorsports team and Wayne Helliwell jr. headed back to the northern New hampshire oval in hopes of continuing a perfect season and extending their streak of four straight victories, they would not leave disappointed.
Twin 35 lap feature events were on tap for the night with both events counting towards New Hampshire state and overall national Whelen All-American points. Helliwell continues to climb the national rankings on a weekly basis while taking the New Hampshire state points lead for the first time two weeks ago.
Feature #1 would see Helliwell roll off from the 12th position. He would work his way to top half of the field running in the 5th position when a spin in the middle of the pack by Hunter Bates would be followed by a major accident as cars tried to take action in avoiding the youngster. The accident would take its toll on the battle for the points chase, as both Bucky Demers and Chris Bergeron would take the hardest hits. Helliwell would only take a few laps after the restart to grab the top spot and go on to claim win number 5 on the season. Helliwell joked in victory lane and later tweeted, "The drive for five is complete… He paused for a minute and said, if we keep this up we will run out of catchy slogans really quick, thats a pretty good problem to have."
Feature #2 would once again see Helliwell start from the 12th position for the 35 lap event. Wasting no time at all he would move from his starting spot to 3rd in just 8 laps. After a quick yellow he would pressure Ricky Bly for the top spot for next 16 laps, working his way by on the outside lane with 11 to go. He would go on to make it six wins in row. In doing so he would move 59th in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national standings to 33rd, just 22 points out of the top 25 in the country. "This is crazy, Helliwell said. "What a car we had tonight… Everything just went our way. I'm happy for everyone involved, we are working hard and it's paying off."
Helliwell will once again be back to Canaan Fair Speedway this coming saturday night for twin 35's, as he try's to can more points in the national standings. More information about about the event can be found at: http://www.canaanspeedways.com/home.html
