Driver Information
Hello to anyone bored enough to read this. I am 47 years old and I am a maintenance manager for mpi corporation. I began racing at the age of 16 at Camden Raceway US24 speedway and Circus City speedway in 1992. My father was one of the founding fathers of the 600 multi class, and was the first to finish creating his masterpiece of 4 original car builders who petetioned the nmma sanctioning body to form the new 600cc multi cylinder sidewinder class (formerly known as 600 multi). His number was 44, I remember how respectful he was to make sure when the legendary racers from out of state like the Esworthy's showed up for a weekend event, he would always get out the tape and change his number to allow them to keep their numbers. That's how I was taught to race, with respect and dignity. It wouldn't be fair if I didn't mention all the help we received from DeWayne McIntire (MAC). He was there to help me with trig in college, and he showed me how to operate a lathe when I was in high school. We built a junior sprint from some spare chromemoly we had for our daughter back when they were running the kt-100, I remember mostly they were a lot of work to keep the engines fresh and that Barbie Kimmel was the driver to beat(i dont believe we ever won against her unless her car broke down). Our daughter really enjoyed making friends with her competitors. Once again like so many other classes of cars, I saw a really cool class begin to die off with the "sportsman class" these guys drug every single old car from barns, stuff buried in an old snowmobile trailer out back or wherever they were hiding, they ran a 360 or 400cc engine(Wayne Miller's dad was the guy to beat back then) when this class began to die out, Jim Woods came to some of us and asked us to form the restrictor class. Again we were pioneering something that had never been done before and it was a brainstorm for everyone to innovate new ways to make vacuum slide carburetors work. I am so excited to see the amazing advances today that have come about with dedication and research from those who continue to pioneer the sport with new technology. We took a long vacation from racing in 2006 to raise our young children. I am very happy to be back as a part of the micro sprint, micro midget, modified midget family network. If you are wondering why i would mention so many others in my bio, this is who i am, and a large part of who i am was engrained into me by my racing family.I am now racing the 600 senior division as car #97 which belongs to me officially now after the car was blessed by Dave Luyster(former owner of the number). I am happy to see Rich Vogler's number(49) on an amazing racer's (Russ Gamester) car, who I rooted for every time I've gotten to see him race. ( By choosing 97, i have an amazing historical micro number that I have endeared memories of and I no longer have to tape a letter to my car when Russ shows up to race with us). I have a 24 year old son(Darron Henry) he is racing his first year in the stock 600 A class this year and it is very exciting.
Career Highlights
Lots of memorable finishes, trophies, and crashes ending 20 years ago. Lots of different rides in different types of racing equipment back then. I had a lot of fun. A lot has changed in 20 years, that's for sure, but it is still a thrill, watching or participating today and I am thankful I am able to do so.
Most Memorable Moment
Full feature trading positions of leader and second place with my dad(I'm pretty sure he was toying with me.)
Hobbies
Programming Logic, tinkering in the garage, activities with my grandchildren .
