Our night at the big O
The Legend Racing team pulled in to Ogilvie Raceway last Saturday, June 16 for the lone appearance by the UMSS sprint cars at the high speed 3/8 mile. Despite gloomy weather for most of the day, we finally caught a break as the clouds broke in the evening. It turned out to be a great night for racing. The fans turned out to see a tough field of sprinters battle it out for a win. With a such a competitive field on hand, getting to the front was tough. During the two rounds of qualifying races, we were able to run well enough to put ourselves in a decent starting position for the 20 lap feature. Jared rolled out seventh and dropped back a couple spots during the initial laps. He quickly found the cushion and once he gained some momentum, made up ground in a hurry. Despite having a car that wasn’t spot on, he ran sixth for most of the race. He was reeling in Scott Broty near the end of the race. On the final lap, Jared pushed it to the limits trying to capture his second straight top five. It didn’t pan out. Jared drove the car harder into turn one, and ended up completely sideways but did a good job getting the car to the infield without causing any damage. The team was sad to see another solid finish disappear, but it was fun to see Jared hustle the car around the top side and have another competitive night among some tough competition. We will keep on keepin’ on this weekend. We plan on running the UMSS show in Lansing, MN on Friday night. We struggled there last year but we have learned a lot since running there last spring and believe we can run much better this time around. Being that far south, the team will push on to run the Saturday night show in Knoxville, IA. We have had great fan support while running close to home the last couple weeks. We will be further down the road this weekend, but stay in touch with updates on www.legendracing9.com and www.umsprints.com.
