Blurton Teams Up With Lee Martin for 360 Sprint Car Ride

Inside Line Promotions – QUINTER, Kan. (Feb. 6, 2019) – Zach Blurton is teaming up with long-time 360ci sprint car owner Lee Martin in 2019.

Blurton is coming off his best season of sprint car racing, which included winning his second straight United Rebel Sprint Series title to go with four 305ci sprint car wins.

“Lee has been away from owning a car for a couple of years,” he said. “He is good friends with my wife’s side of the family and has been a partial owner of a midget. We got to talking at the Chili Bowl last month and he mentioned he still had a sprint car and a couple of 360 motors. I started bugging him and he called and said come get the car and put it together or sell it and we will get the engines ready and let’s go racing.”

Blurton said the team – Blurton Martin Racing – will compete in approximately 20 360 sprint car events in 2019. He will campaign the family 305ci sprint as well, once again chasing the URSS title.

“This is a very cool opportunity,” he said. “We aren’t going to chase any points with the 360. We will race a lot of NCRA (National Championship Racing Association) and the ASCS (American Sprint Car Series) races. I want to hit some of the bigger events like the Hockett Memorial and the Short Track Nationals. I’d also like to get to Knoxville at least once this year. There are a lot of opportunities to do double duty – race the 305 and the 360 on the same night.”

Blurton said a new Eagle chassis has been ordered for the 360 program and one engine is ready to go with the other being freshened.

“Our first race with the 360 will probably be April 25 at Eagle Raceway (in Eagle, Neb.),” he said. “Our first race with the 305 will probably be March 15-16 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway (in Mesquite, Texas). We are looking at around 70-to-75 combined races.

“The 305 will utilize Tornado Racing Engines and the 360 will have Salina Racing Engines.”

Blurton’s statement at the end of 2018 to grow his team is quickly becoming a reality.

“My wife and I have been very busy building our team over the winter,” he noted. “We have really grown our equipment this winter. Ally has been a tremendous help. Now we need to get busy in the shop and get cars ready.”

Blurton, who was the 360 Rookie of the Year at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, in 2013, said he hasn’t driven the higher horsepower machines since 2014.

“I’m just so thankful for Lee for partnering up to give me an opportunity grow and advance in this sport,” he said.
