Wood Rebounds From Early Miscue to Finish 12th at I-90 Speedway
Inside Line Promotions – HARTFORD, S.D. (July 8, 2013) – Cole Wood learned a quick lesson in his first visit to I-90 Speedway on Saturday with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
“In the heat race a guy named Chuck warned me about going off the backstretch,” he said. “I kept it in the back of my mind and unfortunately I still managed to do it on the first lap.”
After starting fourth, Wood lost a couple of positions before rallying to finish fifth. He was relegated to the B Main, which he started seventh.
“The track was perfect for the B Main,” he said. “I did slide jobs on everybody. I passed a bunch of cars.”
Wood maneuvered from seventh to the runner-up position during the 12-lap consolation to transfer to the main event, which he started 18th.
“I felt really good the first five laps before anybody found the rubber,” he said. “The first five or six laps I was really good on top, passing a bunch of cars. All of a sudden the rubber came in right in the middle of the track. It was probably two lanes up from the bottom and nobody could pass.”
Wood managed to finish 12th, which was his 21st top-15 result of the season.
With the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour, he was scheduled to make his first appearance at Billings Motorsports Park in Billings, Mont., on Monday before a massive storm postponed the event to Tuesday.
“I think it’s going to be fun,” he said of the track. “It’s got kind of sweeping corners. It’s going to be a fast track.”
On Wednesday, Wood will compete at Electric City Speedway in Great Falls, Mont., before a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash.
