Among his 15 Factory Stock feature wins in 1993, he still lists a victory at Central Arizona Raceway, when his cousins finished second and third, as one of his most memorable racing moments. ... Karl moved up to IMCA Modifieds in the mid-'90s, making an appearance in 2001 in the famed IMCA Super Nationals at Boone (Iowa) Speedway, where he won a heat among the 416 entries and advanced to the feature event, eventually finishing 17th. ... The next season ('02), Karl moved up to the full-fendered Late Model division after buying his first Late Model (a former Lou Fegers car) from Jeff Wildung of Nassau, Minn. Karl's first career Late Model victory came aboard the former Fegers' machine. ...
