Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (Sept. 27, 2021) – Jack Dover exceeded his expectations during his first season of running a 410ci winged sprint car regularly since 2007.

Despite a rough opener to Championship Weekend, Dover capped the Buffalo Wild Wings Northern Outlaw Sprint Association doubleheader at Huset’s Speedway with a charge to a fifth-place finish on Sunday to secure fourth place in the championship standings.

“I was really pleased,” he said. “Going into the season if I would have known we would finish in the top five in the standings and win a feature I’d say that was a great year. We simply wanted to get better each week and be competitive.”

Dover and the Chris and Rick Bowers owned No. 81 sprint car began last weekend on Saturday by qualifying sixth quickest in their group. A heat race win locked the team into the feature redraw and Dover pulled the No. 7 to start the race on the inside of the fourth row.

“On Saturday we had a good start to the night,” he said. “We qualified decent and we won our heat. Then we broke in the feature when we were running seventh. I felt we were a top-five car. I was getting comfortable in the car and ready to make some moves and the rear end broke. When that happened it ruined our gears we normally run. I feel that’s what hurt us in qualifying on Sunday because we didn’t have that set of gears.”

The DNF on Saturday carried over into the Huset’s Speedway season finale on Sunday when Dover qualified 17th quickest overall. He then advanced from sixth to fifth place in a heat race to garner the 14th starting spot in the A Main.

“In the heat race I felt our car was really soft on the right rear,” he said. “Come to find out we had a bar go bad. We switched that for the feature and we moved forward. It was working great on the bottom in the beginning. At the end we were up top and it was working pretty good. I didn’t want to end the year with a wrecked car so I didn’t push the issue too hard with (Justin) Henderson and (Mark) Dobmeier ahead of us.”

Dover placed fifth and earned the Hard Charger Award, which had a $1,000 bonus courtesy of Cressman Sanitation, for passing the most cars in the main event.

“That definitely helps and I want to thank Cressman Sanitation,” he said. “It was a pretty nice reward. It’s cool to get rewarded when you drive your butt off and it helped the weekend out after the rough finish on Saturday.”

Next up is a two-day event at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., this Friday and Saturday. Dover has three feature victories at the track this season and heads into the weekend second in the championship standings by only two points.

“The weekend has decent money and if we can win both nights we’d wrap the championship up,” he said. “Our goal is to go out and sweep the weekend.”
