Scotty Thiel
Scotty Thiel – Thriller Victory at Jacksonville Speedway!
The Scott Thiel Motorsports team has been anxiously awaiting the 2018 season to get underway. In late March, the team made a trip to Atomic Speedway in Ohio to race but faced some issues which ending their night quickly. They were able to get all of the gremlins out and focused on starting the season off at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, IL on Friday night with the Midwest Open Wheel Association. That trip paid off as Scotty was able to make a thriller pass with two laps to go and capture his first victory on 2018!
25 cars signed into Jacksonville Speedway on Friday night. A passing point system was utilized so that means the drivers drew for their starting position in the heat races. Scotty drew a 15 pill which placed him to start in the third position in the 10 lap heat race event. The field took the green flag and charged into turns one and two. A rough track made for an interesting heat race as cars were bouncing around but that didn’t stop Thiel from making his way forward. He made it into the second position early in the event and after a restart with six laps to go, he moved to the high side of the track and took over the lead. He never looked back and captured the heat race victory and locked himself into the top eight positions for the 25 lap A-main event. During the redraw segment of the event, Scotty drew the #5 pill which placed him in the fifth starting position. The A-main field took the green flag and Scotty began his battle forward. In the first few laps of the event he charged his way into the third position and maintained that for the next few laps. The second place car started to spin out of turn four and Thiel was able to jump into the second position and set his sights on the leader of Tony Stewart. Thiel and Stewart made their way through lap traffic and pulled away from the field. A caution came out with only two laps to go with set them up for a Green, White, Checkered finish. Thiel did not get a great restart and Stewart pulled away several car lengths. Scotty hit a hole in turn two and bounced up the track and would lose another position. As he gathered the car together and charged down the backstretch a caution came out which caused for another restart in the original order as the previous lap. This gave Thiel one last opportunity to take the lead. Stewart picked up the pace in turn three and Scotty rocketed around the top side of the track. Launching off of the cushion coming out of turn four, he carried a full head of steam into turn one and threw a slide job on Stewart. He charged down the backstretch and Stewart would try to slide him in turn four but there was nothing to it and Scotty would open up a several car length lead coming to the white flag. After one more circuit around the track, Thiel would come across the line and capture his first Victory in 2018. “Man this is awesome! Our team worked so hard over the winter to get us prepared and to come out of the gate with a win is incredible. Racing with Tony (Stewart) is awesome and hes a great guy for our sport. I just cannot thank my guys enough for giving me a great car all night and to all of our marketing partners for their support!” Stated an excited Scotty Thiel after the event.
The team headed to I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Missouri on Saturday night to race with the World of Outlaws. Scotty drew a 54 pill which placed him to go out 19th in Flight 2 qualifying. After putting down an 11.562 lap time that was 15th quick overall in the flight and placed him to start in the 8th position of the 10 lap heat race event. The field took the green and Thiel charged the top side of the track and made some passes for position but as he exited the corner, he lost all of his ground made as the top side of the track was filled with loose dirt. He fell back to the 9th position and was able to make his way back into the 8th spot at the completion of 10 laps. The track was very abrasive in the heat races and caused a lot of tire wear. Thiel was scheduled to start 10th in the Last Chance Showdown which took the top four cars and those four cars made the A-main event. The team encountered a couple of issues in the heat which then they made the decision to scratch out of the LCS and call it a night. “We drew late and that put us behind the eight ball all night. It was a struggle in the heat race and after discovering a few issues in the heat, we knew it was going to be tough to make it into the transfer position in the LCS so we decided to call it a night. We burnt up $400 dollars in tires in the heat and the track wasn’t getting better so it was bound to happen again in the B. We will regroup and focus on our three day weekend this coming week.” Stated Thiel.
This week the team has three events on tap. The first two nights will be this Friday and Saturday at Park Jefferson Speedway in South Dakota for the $10,000 to win South Dakota Sprint Car Nationals. The team will compete in heat race events Friday night which will determine how they line up for Main events on Saturday. From there, the team will trek seven hours to Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, WI to start off the 2018 IRA season.
STM would like to thank all of their marketing partners for all of their support in the 2017 season. They encourage everyone to check out these fine businesses and support those who support racing!

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE). This is good, but can be hard to understand. We simplify this process. The numbering system we use is standard to the torsion bar industries. During our test sessions, data is collected and stored in our software, which then calculates it to a torsion bar size that everyone can understand. We have found 1025 bars that test between a 1012 and a 1036 bar. Our test services take away the guesswork. We provide you with a TORSION BAR RATE. Check out www.torsionbarrate.com for more info!
