Thiel Rebounds to Victory Lane after Struggling Few Weeks

The past few weeks for the Scott Thiel Motorsports team along with driver Scotty Thiel have been nothing but frustrating. This stems back to mid-July from leading a race and getting tangled up with lap traffic to top three runs getting shortened by small mechanical gremlins. That all changed Sunday night as Scotty was able to pull the #64 into Victory Lane at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI to cap off the double header weekend with the IRA Series.

The weekend started off on Saturday night at the Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, WI. 28 cars signed into the track that night. Scotty was the 18th car out to qualify. He put down the fourth quickest time of the night and would start the heat race event in the third position. The field took the green and Scotty charged up to the second spot early on. He chased down the leader but was unable to make the pass for position and would settle into the second position and would locked into the redraw. During the redraw he picked the third starting position for the nights 36 lap Roger Iles Tribute event. The green flag flew for the A-main event. Scotty had to work his way to the top of the track and it took a few laps to make that happen. He settled into the third position early on but around lap 10 he would slide his way into the second position. He set his sights on the leader and began to chase his way to the front. Lap traffic helped Thiel get to the leader and was beginning to tighten up the distance between. With ten laps to go Scotty was on the bumper of the leader. He showed him his nose wing on lap 28 and was getting ready to set himself up to slide for the lead. Bad luck struck Thiel once again on lap 30 as a mechanical issue forced Thiel to stop and head to the work area. The crew discovered that the throttle linkage came apart that holds the throttle pedal. They were able to get it fixed and get Scotty back out on the track. With only a few laps left, Scotty was able to make it up to the 18th position and would be scored there on the official finish. “It was a heartbreaker tonight. We had a really good car all night long. I showed the leader my nose wing towards the end there and I was just waiting for the right moment to capitalize on him. Can’t believe what happened. We will go to work and make sure that never happens again and try again tomorrow night.” Stated a disappointed Thiel after the race.

Sunday night brought the team to the historic Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI for the annual Corn Fest event. 23 cars were on hand this night and Scotty would be the eighth car out for qualifying. He again would put down fourth quickest time of the night and start third in the heat race event. The field took the green flag and Scotty battled his way through one and two and came out In the second position. He again made a hard charge at the leader but was unable to make the pass for position and would settle for the second spot but again would be locked into the nightly redraw for the A-main event. During the redraw, Scotty pulled the pole starting position! The crew went to work and prepared the car for the 30 lap A-main event. The field took the green for the main event and Scotty charged into turn one. He would take the lead out of turn two and never look back. He rocketed around the 1/3 mile track and began to pull away from the field. He started to encounter lap traffic several laps later but nothing was getting in the way of him tonight. He worked his way around traffic very well and maintained his distance on the lead cars. Heavy lap traffic slowed Thiel up with about five laps to go but he still had a good lead on the field. He saw the white flag and held his composure for one more lap and would come out of turn four and capture the win at Angell Park! “Man I tell you what we this needed win really bad. Our luck hasn’t been good lately and we’ve been having really good runs that get cut short. We started the night out just like last night and got us in a good redraw pick. I knew the track would be tricky tonight being a lot wider than normal and slick but we had a really great racecar all night long. These guys worked their butts off to get us here tonight and it feels awesome to finally overcome this streak we’ve been on. I can’t thank our partners enough for all their support along with the fans for coming out and supporting this series.” Scotty expressed in Victory Lane.

Next on tap for the STM team is this coming Friday night at Dodge County Speedway in Beaver Dam, WI.

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE). This is good, but can be hard to understand. We simplify this process. The numbering system we use is standard to the torsion bar industries. During our test sessions, data is collected and stored in our software, which then calculates it to a torsion bar size that everyone can understand. We have found 1025 bars that test between a 1012 and a 1036 bar. Our test services take away the guesswork. We provide you with a TORSION BAR RATE. Check out www.torsionbarrate.com for more info!
