Scotty Thiel – Long Weeks pays dividends to Victory Lane Sunday Night!
A long grueling week drained out Scotty and the STM team this past week. The team traveled with the Outlaws both Tuesday and Thursday night and followed up the weekend on Saturday and Sunday with the IRA. They encountered several bumps in the road but at the end of the week, they were able to get everything together and put the #64 in Victory Lane!
During the week the team traveled Tuesday night to Route 66 Dirt Track in Joliet, IL to race with the World of Outlaws. After blowing a tire out on the race hauler, it delayed the voyage several hours and it was rush time when they finally pulled into the track at 5:30. The results were not good as they struggled to get a fresh engine running properly all night. They followed that up with another Outlaw event on Thursday night at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, MN. They were still fighting with fueling issues in the engine which costed valuable time in time trails and heat race event. Scotty missed the A-main by one spot.
After regrouping Friday, the team set to Wilmot Raceway on Saturday night with the IRA. 26 cars were on hand and Scotty would go out 17th for qualifying. After a 12.712 lap time, that was 2nd quick on the night! He would follow up that run with a heat race victory after starting in the fourth position. During the redraw event, Thiel pulled a seven pill which would be his starting position for the nights 30 lap A-main event. Thiel struggled a little bit early on in the event to find the proper groove on the track but never dropped back. During the halfway point of the race he pulled his way up into the top five. A late race caution would advance Thiel to the fourth position and after returning to green flag action, Scotty charged his way forward and finish in the third spot! “We started off good with 2nd quick in qualifying and winning the heat race. I struggled a little bit early on in the main. I just didn’t know what groove was going to be fast. Just slowly picked our way forward and landed with a podium. The car was great I just needed to drive it a little better to maybe have a little better finish. Hopefully we can get everything working right and pick up a win tomorrow night.” Scotty stated after the event.
Sunday night lead the team north to 141 Speedway in Francis Creek, WI. 31 cars were on hand for the night. Scotty was the 21st car out to qualify and after a 11.617 lap time, that was 6th quick on the night. He would go on to start 3rd in the heat race event and made a challenge for the lead but would finish in the second spot. During the redraw he drew the #8 starting position for the 30 lap main event. The green flag dropped for the night’s main event. Scotty worked the top side of the track early on in the race and advanced his way forward quickly. Several cautions helped get the field relined up and Thiel would take advantage of every opportunity. He battled his way into the second position with just several laps to go before a caution would come out. On the restart, Scotty pulled alongside the leader in turn one and two and took the lead down the backstretch. Another caution would come out with just 4 laps to go. Scotty led the field back to green and would not look back. He charged around the top side and after 30 laps of green flag action, he would finally pick up the first win of the season! “Man this one feels good. We struggled during the week this week but I think we still learned a lot that helped us when we came back home here. I cannot thank my guys enough for all of their efforts this weekend. We had a fast car all weekend and everything just connected tonight! Stated an excited Scotty Thiel after the event.
Next up on tap is this Friday at Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, WI with the IRA Series. This is the only IRA event this weekend. The team has several options for Saturday that are undecided at this time.
STM would like to thank all of their marketing partners for all of their support in the 2017 season. They encourage everyone to check out these fine businesses and support those who support racing!

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE). This is good, but can be hard to understand. We simplify this process. The numbering system we use is standard to the torsion bar industries. During our test sessions, data is collected and stored in our software, which then calculates it to a torsion bar size that everyone can understand. We have found 1025 bars that test between a 1012 and a 1036 bar. Our test services take away the guesswork. We provide you with a TORSION BAR RATE. Check out www.torsionbarrate.com for more info!
