Scotty Thiel – Hard Charging Beaver Dam Top 10

Round two of the 2017 season for the Scott Thiel Motorsports team lead way at the Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, WI. After struggling early on in the night, Scotty fought his way back up through the field and would capture a solid top ten finish on the night.

29 cars checked into Beaver Dam Raceway Saturday night with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Car Series. Scotty drew a 64 pill which placed him 26th out for the qualifying order. He put down a 12.878 lap time which was 14th quick overall for the night. That led him to start fifth in the ten lap heat race event. The track conditions became very slick and made it difficult on the starts to get any good jump. The field took the green flag and Thiel was stuck on the bottom of the track. He fell back several positions as he was trying to work his way to the top side of the track. After struggling to build any momentum to move up through the field, Scotty would have to settle for a disappointing eighth place finish. That result would place Thiel to start on the outside front row of the B-main event.

The field took the green for the 12 lap B-main event. Scotty charged the top side of the track and would not look back. He led the entire race and would take the win with a seven second lead. That transferred him into the night’s 30 lap A-main event and he would go on to start in the 19th position. The 24 car field set to the track for the final event of the evening. The field was set and took the green flag out of turn four. Scotty worked the bottom groove for a lap and then set his sights on the top side of the track. He began to work the same line he used in the B main and started to pick cars one by one. An early yellow came out on lap six and reset the field. After returning back to green flag action, Thiel continued his charge on the top side of the track. He moved his way inside of the top 15 several laps later and continued to build his momentum. A couple of cautions came out midway through the event which helped Scotty as the field would get bunched back up. This helped on the restarts get a better advantage to make moves for advancing some positions. A late race charge would bring Scotty inside of the top ten and he would come home with a solid 8th place finish after 30 laps of green flag racing!

“The night started off a little shaky for us as we got a late qualifying draw. The track was slick and hard to get a grip on it. Ended up 14th quick. The heat race didn’t go well at all. Spun the tires on the start and fell back to 8th. I tried to pass some cars but the track was just too slick to build any speed to make a slide job work. We won the B and was able to get a feel of the track for the main event. Started 19th in the main and drove up to 8th. I was very happy with that result after starting out kind of bad. I can’t thank my team enough for their hard work to get us back up in the top 10.” Scotty stated after the main.

Next on deck for Scotty and the team is this coming weekend starting off Friday night at Luxemburg Speedway for the Battle by the Bay event presented by SixFour Promotions with the IRA Series. Saturday night is a local event at the Wilmot Raceway and they will round out the weekend on Sunday at the Dodge County Speedway in Beaver Dam, WI with the IRA yet again.

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE).
