Scotty Thiel - Pulls off a Top 3 at Plymouth!
Saturday night brought the Scott Thiel Motorsports team to the Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, WI. This was the first weekend back home racing for the team in three weeks. Scotty drew a 7 pill which set him to start on the outside pole of the third heat race event. The green flag dropped for the ten lap event and Scotty did not get the jump he was looking for. He dropped into the second position and would stay there for the remaining laps of the race. That finish would allow Scotty to start in the eighth spot for the night's 27 lap A-Main event. 27 laps was in honor of Frank Filskov.
The field got lined up and would take the green flag. It was short lived as a car got upside down on the initial start. After cleaning up the accident, a complete restart took place. The green flag came back out and the race was finally under way. Scotty started out by working the low side of the track but jumped back up to the top with a few laps in. He picked off several positions and was charging forward. A caution came out on lap 20 and Thiel was sitting in the fourth position. On the double file restart, the leader would set the pace followed by two rows of lap cars and then the next three lead lap cars. Scotty was in the fourth row of the restart and knew it would take a lot of hard driving to get passed the lapped cars and catch the leader in only seven laps. The green flag came back out and Scotty began to move through. After three laps, Scotty would clear through the lapped cars and work on getting in the top three spot. He made the move into third with only two laps to go but would fall short at the end to pass for the second position.
"It was a decent night for us tonight, at least at this track. We've struggled all year long here. Track conditions were better than normal at least. We had a good car all race long just needed some extra laps at the end." Scotty explained after the A-Main.
Overall, it was a solid run for the #64 Professional Plating Sprint car. Rounding out the year at the Plymouth Dirt Track with a third place finish is nothing to complain about considering the struggles the team occurred all year long at that track. Next week brings the team to the Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, WI.
