14th place finish in Sunshine Nationals finale at Volusia

Making his 2021 Speedweeks debut, Parker Martin made the trip to Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) on Thursday evening for the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series season-opener. Drawing 38 cars for the three-day Sunshine Nationals, Martin laid down the sixth fastest lap in his time trial group before placing third in his heat race. Starting the opening night feature in 11th, Parker was an early retiree from the 40-lapper on lap 28.

After Mother Nature axed Friday night’s program, Parker followed up the fastest lap in his group with an eight-lap heat race victory. Receiving the third-starting position for the $10,000-to-win finale via the redraw, Martin faded back to a 14th-place outing when the checkered flag flew. (Jacy Norgaard photo)
