Martin begins DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park
On Monday afternoon, Parker Martin returned to Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) for the opening round of the 50th annual DIRTcar Nationals. In a stout field of 51 Late Models, Parker edged his way into the opening night feature with the third and final transfer spot in his heat race. With $7,000 on the line, Martin dropped eight spots in the 30-lap affair to finish 21st.
For another $7,000-to-win A-Main on Tuesday, Martin came one spot short of a transfer position in his heat with a fourth place finish, transferring him into the B-Main. Needing to place second or better, Parker slipped back to a fifth-place outing. (Josh James Artwork)
On Wednesday evening as the remainder of the weekend shifted under the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series banner, Parker fell short of a transfer position in his heat race and B-Main, but was granted a provisional into the show. Slated to start in the 31st, Martin elected to scratch from the 40-lapper to save equipment.
The following night, Martin posted a fifth place finish in his heat race, sending him into the one of three consolation features. Locking the Top 2 into the show, Parker came one spot shy with a third place finish. Receiving a provisional into the $10,000-to-win A-Main, Martin was an early retiree from the 40-lap affair with 12 laps remaining. (Michael Boggs Photography)
A post-race altercation on Thursday evening involving his father disqualified him from further competition in the DIRTcar Nationals.
