Drake Troutman
Troutman pilots Late Model in Land of Lincoln, seventh in Modified at Bloomington
Drake Troutman trekked to Spoon River Speedway (Canton, Ill.) on Wednesday to compete in the Late Model ranks for the second edition of the Illinois Speedweek.
With the pit area packed with 48 Castrol FloRacing Night in America entries, Troutman raced his way into the opener with a third-place finish in his heat race. Chasing a $23,023 payday in the feature, Drake showed speed early but got over the banking in turns three and four, ending his night early.
For another $23,023-to-win Castrol FloRacing Night in America event on Thursday at Lincoln Speedway (Lincoln, Ill.), Drake’s sixth-place finish in his heat relegated him into a B-Main for another shot at the show. Slated on the fourth row, Troutman elected to scratch from his consolation race and prepare for the remainder of the weekend.
The following night, Troutman headed to the Hoosier State for the Roddy Strong Memorial at Bloomington Speedway (Bloomington, Ind.). Among a field of 42 DIRTcar UMP Modifieds, Drake secured his spot into the $9,999-to-win A-Main with a fourth-to-second showing in his heat. Hanging onto a top-10 finish after breaking a j-bar midway through the race, Troutman scored a seventh-place finish.
On Saturday, Drake was pulling double duty in his Late Model and Modified at Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.) for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned FALS Spring Shootout. Despite failing to qualify for the Late Model feature, Troutman laid down the fastest lap in his time trial group before placing first in his heat. Rolling off second for the rain-delayed feature, Drake was an early retiree from the 30-lapper on lap 14.
