Drake Troutman debuts with Chris Bragg Racing at Charlotte
Making his debut behind the wheel of the Chris Bragg Racing No. 7 Late Model, Drake Troutman returned to The Dirt Track at Charlotte (Concord, N.C.) over the weekend as a pair of qualifying rounds on Wednesday kicked off the four-day World of Outlaws World Finals.
With the 74-car World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series sanctioned field divided into two groups for both time trial sessions, Troutman backed up the 14th-fastest effort in his first round with the fourth-fastest lap in his 37-car group in the second session.
Starting on the third row of his heat race on Thursday, Drake squeezed into the $15,000-to-win opener with a fifth-to-third run. He was collected in a multi-car tangle on the opening lap that eliminated him seven circuits later.
On Friday, Troutman outdueled pole-starting Scott Bloomquist in his heat to pick up the eight-lap victory. Receiving the sixth-starting position for the A-Main via the redraw, Drake retired on lap 20 after going with the wrong set-up before the 35-lapper.
The weekend drew to an early close for the Drake on Saturday after the Pennsylvania native missed a transfer spot by one car in both his heat race and B-Main, ending his bid for the $25,000-to-win World Finals finale.
Earlier in the week aboard the Chris Bragg Racing No. 7 Late Model on Tuesday at Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, S.C.), Troutman steered to a third-place finish in the Mid-East Super Late Models sanctioned feature. He followed Daulton Wilson and Donald McIntosh across the line with Gray Parton and Logan Roberson rounding out the Top-5.
