McCarl Second in Rare USCS Appearance

PETERSEN MEDIA: Making the last-minute decision to take in a USCS Race in Alabama on the team’s way home from Florida, Terry McCarl continued his strong start to the season as he finished second at Dotham Motor Speedway.

“It is too cold to be in Iowa, so when we looked at the schedule and saw a chance to stick around Florida for another week and sneak in a race in Alabama on our way home we jumped at it,” Terry McCarl said with a smile. “We ran really well all night long, and it was a really good race.”

Lining up fourth in his heat race aboard the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/TheSnowPlow.com backed No. 4 machine, McCarl flexed his muscles early as he got by Terry Gray and Danny Smith to grab the lead.

Out in front, McCarl would leave the field in his wake as he powered away to the win and earned a spot in the all-important redraw.

Pulling the four pill, TMAC would grid the field from the second on a surface that looked to be primarily right around the bottom groove.

With Mark Smith and Greg Wilson on the front row, TMAC would get a great start as he quickly jumped into second and began his pursuit of Mark Smith. As the leaders reached the back of the field, the Altoona, IA driver made his move as he took command of the race and began to set a strong pace.

Leading lap after lap, an untimely yellow would bunch the field back up and erase McCarl’s advantage. The yellow would turn into an extended yellow which was brutal on TMAC’s right rear air pressure. Going low before returning to green, the change would result in an extremely tight car in the race’s closing laps.

Hanging on as best he could, TMAC would lose the lead to Smith, but still came away with his third consecutive runner up finish.

“We were really good,” Terry McCarl said. “We were able to track Smith down and pass him in traffic. Unfortunately, that long yellow killed our right rear and we got super tight in the closing laps. Still a good run, and really fun race. Thanks to everyone who makes this all possible for us.
