Tough Outcome in Home State at Deer Creek
What was originally slated as a weekend double-dip with the World of Outlaws was reduced to Saturday only for the TKS Motorsports team when the previous night fell to rain in Spencer, IA. With perfect weather on tap Saturday, ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ crossed the border into his home state of Minnesota for action at Deer Creek Speedway, a 3/8-mile he’s been strong at recording five top-tens in six appearances dating back to 2009 that included a win in 2012.
Plagued by a bad run in qualifying, the night got off to a rough start but Dollansky turned attention to heat action where the Aggressive Hydraulics Maxim started inside row four and finished 4th to secure a direct transfer position to the feature.
In the 35-lap A-Main the Casey’s General Stores entry lined up deep in the pack inside row ten. After a caution in the early going, Dollansky rocketed into the top-ten on a lap 3 restart and then battled with David Gravel and Shane Stewart. By lap 12, the Stone Mountain Access #2KS got the short end of the stick dropping back a few positions but continued to battle as the field knifed high and low in all corners of the high-banked Deer Creek Speedway. After another double-file restart with 10 laps remaining, Dollansky got a great run when the green flag waved, but contact with another car down the front stretch broke the steering on the Vahlco Wheels backed sprinter and retired the #2KS from the feature with damage to significant to continue.
“We dug ourselves a hole in qualifying and knew we had our work cut out starting in the tenth row of the A-Main,” commented Dollansky. “We were able to work our way into the top-ten and continue making forward progress, unfortunately I caught the inside berm going into turn one and lost a few positions. We were gaining those spots back but when I tried to pass another car on the front stretch on a restart we made contact which broke my steering and shot me into the infield.
“We had a good enough car to get into the top-five I just felt bad for our team, fans, and supporters. I wish I would have been a little more patient and done a few things different. It was an unfortunate end to our end but for only running fifteen races together to this point I feel confident about the progress this TKS Motorsports team has made. I look for good things to come as we continue working hard and building together.”
