Brian Brown- Two Top Fives Start Midwest Campaign!

After spending a few weeks on the west coast, Brian Brown and the Casey’s General Stores/FVP #21 team are happy to be home in the Midwest. The Grain Valley, Missouri driver notched a pair of top five finishes in NSL National 360 competition at 81 Speedway near Wichita, Kansas last weekend. This weekend sees more NSL National 360 action. This time, the venue will be the Randolph County Raceway east of Moberly, Missouri.

It was a little cold in Wichita Friday and Saturday.

-It definitely wasn’t California weather for sure. It was definitely a stacked field of cars though. We started eighth in our heat. We were able to get up to fourth. We tried to make a move on a restart, and it ended up costing us a spot.

How did the car feel?

-Usually we are right in the game right away with the 360, but we really struggled Friday night. We’ve been on FK Shocks and some other new things we’re trying. It takes time to get that balance feel as a driver. With a heat, Qualifier and feature on Friday that gave us some more laps to try and figure it out.

You started outside row one for the Qualifier.

-We were able to work on the car for the Qualifier. We were able to get the lead there, and John Carney II was able to get by us with a couple laps to go. We weren’t where we needed to be and we continued to work on it.

You started eleventh in Friday’s prelim on a track that was one-lane.

-It was rubber from the get-go. It made a second lane in one and two later on in the feature. I finally got enough nerve to try it, and we passed four or five cars there towards the end. I wish we would have tried it a little earlier, but we didn’t. Considering everything, we felt good going from 11th to fifth and we got ready for Saturday from there.

You started third in your heat on Saturday.

-Our heat was really tough. We were able to get to second and settle in behind Ian (Madsen). That put us in a pretty good spot with the passing points. Then we were able to go from fourth to second in the Qualifier. From there, we were able to use everything we’d learned over the weekend for the feature.

That gave you enough points to start inside row three. How did things go from there?

-I felt we were really good. We didn’t get the best of starts and we fell behind (Don) Droud and Parker Price-Miller. We had to work hard to get by those guys. Once we got into traffic, we were able to get by Danny (Lasoski) and run the top two guys down. At that point, the track started laying down rubber. There are times you aren’t good enough, and there are times that you know you’d have a shot if circumstances were different.

I’m guessing you were wishing circumstances were different. Still, you finished on the podium.

-It was a good start. It was two top five finishes to start our Midwest campaign. I’m just proud of the guys (Chad Morgan, Michael Williams, Wyatt Burks). They worked hard all weekend long in very cold conditions.

This weekend you are headed to Randolph County Raceway.

-We’re looking forward to getting over to Moberly. It’s a place we’ve had a lot of success at in a 360. I feel we should be able to apply what we learned last weekend and we’re going to shoot for that $7,500 prize!
