Thornton tops Nippy 50 finale in Modified, Top-10 in Late Model on Friday
Dylan Thornton was pulling double duty over the weekend as he returned to racing in the Midwest with the inaugural Nippy 50 at Maquoketa Speedway (Maquoketa, Iowa).
Aboard the Kay Racing No. 38T Super Late Model, Thornton raced into the $10,000-to-win opener with a consolation victory. Wheeling his way into the top-10, Dylan charged forward nine spots to register a 10th-place finish in his Kay Racing debut.
In the Modified ranks on Friday, Dylan followed up a second-place consolation finish with a 20th-to-8th run in the 25-lap feature.
On Saturday, Thornton’s night came to an early end in the $20,000-to-win Super Late Model feature on the fifth circuit but he was able to find victory lane in the Modified ranks.
Charging from the fourth row, Dylan overtook Spencer Diercks on the 12th circuit and paced the remainder of the 30-lapper to claim his first win of the season and the $2,500 top prize. He finished ahead of Cody Laney, Scotte Lemke, Wyatt Block, and Chris Simpson.
