McCarl Closes Knoxville Season With 4th Place Finish
PETERSEN MEDIA: Championship night at Knoxville Raceway went well for Terry McCarl. Finishing fourth in the final feature of the season, McCarl finished second in the Championship points, and also was able to celebrate his son, Carson, being crowned the track’s 360 Champion.
“It was a great night for our family at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night,” Terry McCarl said. “It was great to see Carson claim the track title, it was great to run really well, and to cap it off I ran second in 410 points and (son) Austin ended up third.”
Running in both the 360ci and 410ci class on this night, McCarl would get off to really strong starts in both divisions as he would time in 3rd quickest with the 410 and 4th fastest in 360 action.
Running fourth in both heat races, McCarl and the Destiny Motorsports crew would notice a failing brake line on the 360ci car and made a mad dash to get it replaced. Able to make the switch, brakes still hindered the Altoona, IA driver when the feature came to life.
On the start of the race, contact with another car would result in a damaged right rear wheel on McCarl’s entry, it would lead to right rear tire blowing out later in the race. After a quick trip to the work area, McCarl would restart from the back of the back, but something was still amiss on his MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/TheSnowPlow.com entry.
A couple of near wrecks was enough for the veteran driver who pulled his machine back to the infield and called it a night in 360ci actin as he would be scored 14th.
Taking the green flag from the sixth starting position in 410ci action, McCarl would have a strong entry underneath him. Able to make a couple of nice moves amidst a torrid battle up front, McCarl would work his way up into fourth.
As the race went by quickly, McCarl would hold the fourth position and close a strong season out with another Top-Five finish.
“It was a fun year at Knoxville, and it was great to have myself and my two boys have strong seasons,” McCarl said. “Thanks to everyone who makes this possible for our team.”
