Brandon Hahn Shifts Attention to Short Track Nationals After Rough Winter Nationals

Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (Oct. 22, 2013) – Brandon Hahn characterized his 40th annual Winter Nationals as rough.

“It wasn’t very good to be honest,” he said. “We weren’t very lucky. We started off the night with a bad draw. We drew the last row of the heat and the track was already one groove.”

After the two-day Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event at Devil’s Bowl Speedway was condensed to only Saturday following Friday’s rain out, Hahn was behind from the start.

However, he advanced from eighth to sixth place in his heat race on the narrow track. That started him seventh in a B Main, which transferred the top three to the main event.

“In the B Feature I started passing a couple of cars and then I drove off the end of the race track in turns one and two,” he said.

After placing 10th in the consolation, Hahn used a provisional to start last – 23rd – in the feature.

“We lost our brake caliper in the A Feature on Lap 3,” he said. “So we didn’t have any brakes for the A Feature. It was just one thing after another. We were fast at the beginning of the race even without the brakes. As the race got going more I needed them more and more.”

Hahn worked toward the top 15 on the fast track before a couple of incidents ended with a 19th-place finish, which marked his 23rd top-20 result of the season.

“We got up to around 16th and I was going to make a pass and that’s when I really needed those brakes,” he said. “We kinda got together and spun out with him. I had to go to the back and had to make my way back up.”

Hahn is ready for the next challenge, which is the 26th Annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. The event kicks off on Wednesday with Hahn’s qualifying night set for Friday.

“I think going into Short Track Nationals the goal is to make the show,” he said. “I don’t want to tear up my stuff. It’s one of the toughest races of the year. If I can make it into the show I did a pretty darn good job. That’d be a win for me.”

He placed 12th in the main event during preliminary action last year before ending 16th in a B Main during the finale.
