Andrew Felker Charges Through C & B-Mains to Narrowly Miss Chili Bowl Feature!

Story by Walker Racing Promotions (Dylan Duvall Photography)
Tulsa, OK | January 20, 2015 - It was an up and down week full of mixed emotions at the Andrew Felker Racing camp as the 29th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals emerged upon Tulsa, Oklahoma. Competing at the prestigious event for the sixth time in his career, the Carl Junction, Missouri native carried on an impressive streak with a strong preliminary night and an even better "alphabet soup" charge on Saturday.
Running his Sixty-Six Truck and Foreign Salvage No. 11A machine on Tuesday's Warren Cat qualifying night, Felker started the week off on a sour note as he drew the number one starting pill. Refusing to let a poor draw hold back his full potential, Felker ensued to storm away with the heat race win and backed that with a second place qualifier run.
As the green flag dropped on the 25-lap feature that would lock in the top three finishers, Felker quickly began his charge to the front from 13th. When halfway hit, he had his Stanton SR11 Mopar powered BOSS Chassis firing on all cylinders as he was storming through the ranks of the top ten and inching closer to the top five.
Running sixth and still making ground on the front runners, tragedy struck when a flat left rear forced the 2012 POWRi Midget champion to the work area. A quick change would immediately send him back on the track, but unfortunately to the tail of the field. The limited time left in the main event would hardly allow much room to be gained, but Felker was able to bring it home for a 15th place finish.
His preliminary night guaranteed a streak of five years to carry on as his worst preliminary finish has never been worse than 18th and the "Show-Me State" ace has never competed in lower than a D-Main on Saturday's championship portion of the extravaganza.
Starting tenth in the C-Main, Felker immediately jumped into the seventh spot as a heated battle for the final transfer broke out. In an intense thriller, Felker made it to the Chili Bowl B-Main for the fifth time in six years as he made a last lap pass to claim sixth in the 15-lapper.
His work would be cut out for him in the 20-lap B-Main, however, as he rolled his No. 11A off on the 20th grid. With the help of several wrecks and cautions along with a bullet fast machine, "Bad Fast" Felker moved into ninth in the closing laps. A green-white-checkered bid gave him one final shot at the main event. Jumping to the high side of the 1/4 mile and running right on the monstrous curb, Felker was able to power into seventh out of the final corner, but barely missed the A-Main by just one spot.
"Felt like we had a really fast car each and every time we hit the track," said Felker. "Obviously we wanted to be in the "A" come Saturday night, but with the situation we were put in on Tuesday night, with a flat left rear late in the race, we are excited with our run. Looking forward to this upcoming season with the race car we have put together."
Although it wasn't exactly the ideal Chili Bowl run for the AFR team, it was another strong Chili Bowl performance with the BOSS/Stanton-Mopar combination. A lengthy break will ensue, but the 2015 season will kick off in March when the POWRi National Midgets compete at Port City Raceway as Felker prepares to challenge for his second career POWRi championship.
Felker would like to thank 66 Truck & Foreign Salvage, Auto Xpress, MelMark Pipe & Supply, Stanton Racing Engines, CSI Shocks, Engler Machine & Tool, Inc., Momo’s Racing Engines, BOSS Chassis, Schluckebier Farms, Pro Powder Coating, All-Pro Auto Interiors, Aggressive Graphics, KBR Performance, Weld Wheels, Heath II, Wilwood, Bell Helmets, Rod End Supply, Midwest Sheet Metal, and Butler Built for their continued support.
