Andrew Felker Finishes Sixth in USAC’s Indiana Midget Week Event at Lawrenceburg!

Story by Walker Racing Promotions (TeeJay Crawford Photography)

Lawrenceburg, IN | June 16, 2015 – Taking a few days off following the four-day POWRi Speedweek in Illinois, Andrew Felker returned to action on Friday night as he prepared to compete in the final three days of USAC’s historic Indiana Midget Week. The Carl Junction, Missouri native found trouble early on Friday at Bloomington, but quickly recovered as he timed in fourth and ran a strong sixth in the feature on Saturday’s portion at Lawrenceburg Speedway!
“On Friday night we struggled and got behind early and put ourselves in a bad position,” said Felker. “Went from 14th to the final transfer in the B-Main, but a car in front of us checked up on the last corner and a car behind us got into us and around us. Saturday night we had a good car all night long, but struggled with an electrical problem in the feature. Felt like if it wasn’t for the problem we could have had a real shot at the win.”
Kicking the weekend off on Friday at Bloomington Speedway, Felker opened the night with a tough 30th place qualifying time. Following an eighth-to-seventh run in heat race action, Felker charged his machine all the way from 14th to sixth in the B-Main. However, a near pileup on the final lap cost him the final transfer as he dropped back into seventh.
Heading to Lawrenceburg Speedway on Saturday night with a vengeance, Felker immediately made his mark as he piloted his Stanton SR11 Mopar powered BOSS Chassis No. 11A to an impressive 15.152, good enough for fourth in qualifying. A fifth-to-fifth heat race run would secure the 22-year old his 16th feature start of the season.
Rolling out in the fourth spot for the 30-lap USAC Honda National Midget main event, Felker quickly held his ground early on. As the leaders exchanged slidejobs, he pulled closer and closer, and nearly made it a five-car fight for the top spot. As the race wound down, Felker would lose his ground he once gained on the frontrunners and in the finals laps he dropped back to finish sixth. Afterwards it was discovered they were struggling with an electrical problem that was holding him back from full potential.
Felker, along with the rest of the USAC National drivers were set for a date with the always-exciting Kokomo Speedway for the Midget Week finale on Sunday night, but Mother Nature had other plans and rained the race out. Felker will now take the next two weeks off and will return to racing on Fourth of July weekend, as he runs the POWRi “Freedom Fest” at Macon Speedway and the POWRi & USAC co-sanctioned “Pepsi Nationals” at Angell Park Speedway.
Felker would like to thank Sixty-Six Truck & Foreign Salvage, Auto Xpress, MelMark Pipe & Supply, Stanton Racing Engines, CSI Shocks, Engler Machine & Tool, Momo’s Racing Engines, BOSS Chassis, Schluckebier Farms, Pro Powder Coating, All-Pro Auto Interiors, Aggressive Graphics, KBR Performance, Weld Wheels, Heath II, Wilwood, Bell Helmets, Rod End Supply, Midwest Sheet Metal, and Butler Built for their continued support.
