DAVID WHITESELL, STEVEN BOONE AND CHARLES REDD SCORE BIG IN JERRY KETTERMAN’S SUPER BAD 8 SUNDAY AT U. S. 13
DELMAR, DE – Jerry Ketterman’s Super Bad 8 show had to be rescheduled to Sunday, June 12th due to last week’s rain. Once again the event received a huge amount of support with 111 Top Eliminator cars plus strong turn outs in all other classes.
The big winners on the day were: David Whitesell of Glen Burnie, Md. winning in Top Eliminator; Steven Boone of Ingleside, Md. taking the Bad 8 Open Wheel final and Charles Redd of Rosedale, Md. capturing the Bad 8 Full Body final.
Other winners on the day included: Tim Foskey, Jr. of Rhodesdale, Md. in Mod; Harvey Powell of Felton, Del. in Pro Bike; James Farmer, Jr. of Milford, Del. in Street; Brenda Layton of Laurel, Del. in Hot Rod; Carter Foskey of Rhodesdale in Jr. Dragster 1; Morgan Larkin of Salisbury, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2 and Angelina Battaglia of Elkton, Md. in Jr. Street.
In the Super Bad 8 finals run at the eighth-mile, it was Steven Boone over Brian Kunkowski in the Open Wheel final. Kunkowski had a .004 reaction time but was too quick and broke out running a 5.767/175.60 on a 7.78 dial. Boone had a .026 light but stayed within his dial for the win running a 6.164/162.01 on a 6.15.
In the Full Body final it was Charles Redd in his ’68 Camaro over Johnnie Rogers, Jr. in a Pontiac. Rogers, Jr. had a red light foul and Redd ran a 6.055/176.64 on a 6.00 dial for the victory. Each Bad 8 winner received $1400 for their wins.
The Top Eliminator final round drivers shared $6250. David Whitesell in his Chevy S-10 truck was matched against weekly racer, Daryl Beauchamp of Princess Anne, Md. in his Z28 Camaro. Whitesell took the win with a .006 reaction light and a 7.813/131.98 on a 7.80 dial. Beauchamp was too quick and broke out with an 8.153/122.76 on an 8.16 dial.
The Mod final matched Tim Foskey, Jr. and Humphrey Maddox, Jr. Foskey, Jr. had a .008 reaction that nailed his win with a run of 9.494/130.18 on a 9.46 dial. Maddox, Jr. had a .034 reaction and ran a 10.640/126.93 on a 10.61 dial.
Harvey Powell rode up against Deltez Davis in the Suzuki vs. Kawasaki Pro Bike final. The pair had identical .042 reaction times and it was Powell, with a 9.071/129.40 on an 8.97 dial taking the win. Davis was fast with a 9.318/144.23 on an 8.90 dial.
It was a pair of Chevy S-10 trucks in the Street final. James Farmer, Jr. took the win with an .010 reaction and a run of 12.284/108.42 on a 12.24 dial. Ronn Carey finished as the runner-up with a .043 light and a run of 11.622/11801 on an 11.59 dial.
In Hot Rod it was Brenda Layton in her Chevy S-10 taking the double breakout win over Bennie Montgomery in a ’94 Honda. Layton had a 10.801/127.64 on a 10.85 dial while Montgomery was out by more with a 16.362/85.11 on a 16.81 dial.
The Jr. Dragster 1 final saw Carter Foskey defeat Friday night’s winner, Caitlyn Hooper. Foskey had a .080 reaction and ran an 8.974/71.43 on an 8.94 dial for the win. Hooper was late at the start but ran a solie 8.901/72.64 on an 8.90 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was Morgan Larkin over Tyler Powell. Powell left too early and fouled and Larkin ran an 8.355/79.76 on an 8.38 dial. Angelina Battaglia had a solo in the Jr. Street final running a 9.999/73.86 on a 9.97 dial.
