Mitchell Masterful In Edwards Memorial At Lake View
LAKE VIEW, SC (September 7) – Pine Hall, NC’s Dustin Mitchell bided his time to take the lead with four laps to go and win the Edwards Family Memorial for the Ultimate Super Late Models Saturday night at Lake View Motor Speedway.
After grabbing the pole position in qualifying, former track champion Christian Thomas sped to the lead off turn two ahead of Ethan Wilson. The first caution of the race waved on lap eight when the lapped machine of Chance Mincey spun entering turn one, just in front of the leaders. Five laps later, sixth place runner, Brian Strickland in turn two and collected Michael Rouse.
The leaders waged war for the lead for the remainder of the race. Wilson briefly took the lead with 15 laps to go, only for Thomas to surge back ahead on the outside. Following a caution for the stalled car of Willie Milliken with six laps to go, Mitchell began to flex his muscle, passing Wilson for second on the restart. With four laps to go, Mitchell managed to get to the outside of Thomas to take the lead with four laps to go. Mitchell led the rest of the way for the win over Thomas, Wilson, Brent Robinson, and Michael Brown. Rounding out the top 10 were Luke Cooper, Zach Cox, Rouse, Aiden Price, and David Randle.
Cameron Norris, IV lead flag-to-flag to capture the win in the Tony Williams, III Memorial for the Street Stocks. The caution waved on lap two when Andrew Register spun entering turn one and collected Dalton Coursey. Following Norris to the finish line were Blaise Bryant, Cameron Holloway, Robbie Mooneyham, and John Harper Livingston. Michael Butler won the Hard Charger award from the Mobile Home Store.
Dustin Watkins went from third to first with two laps to go and held on for his first career Carolina Outlaw Super Street win. David Royal jumped to the lead at the start over pole sitter Benji Thompson and dominated much of the race. However, Watkins found speed on the outside groove late in the race, passing Royal and Benji Thompson to take the lead entering turn three. Watkins would go on to win over Royal, Thompson, Peyton Abbott, and Russell Boyd.
Mike Bowman led flag-to-flag for his fifth Modified win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Cameron Norris, IV, Tim Clemons, Kyle Whitney, and Jeff Tiley.
Tom Lovett fended off an early challenge from Chip Fenoff and led every lap for the Fred’s Tire & Auto Stock V8 win. Following Lovett and Fenoff to the checkered flag were Ed Mason, Chucky Nicholson, and Derek Kemper.
Collin Brown took the lead and led every lap for his fourth Morrisonbuilt Performance SCDRA Sport Compact win of the season. Patrick Duchaine and Chelsey Richardson both saw good runs go away with mechanical failures while running second. Following Brown to the checkered flag were Julio Cifuentes, Ryan Nachel, Johnny Brooks, and Coop Williams.
The next event at Lake View Motor Speedway will be next Saturday night, September 14 and will feature the Late Models racing for $1,500 to win. Street Stocks will also be in action along with the Modifieds, Stock V8, Sport Compact, Econo 4s, and Legends.
