Kyle Beard bests Lone Star Speedway CCSDS foes
By Ben Shelton (Kilgore, TX) -- For the second night in a row a two-time COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) presented by Lucas Oil champion was in Victory Lane. One night after Jack Sullivan topped the series action, Trumann, Arkansas native Kyle Beard found himself in the winner’s circle. The pilot of the #86 Black Diamond Super Late Model claimed the $3,000 triumph as the tour made its debut at Lone Star Speedway.
Beard wired the field from the New Vision Graphics Pole Position n in the 40 lapper, but the first half of the race found the leader having to keep fellow front-row-starter, Jon Mitchell at bay. In the late stages of the event at the 3/8-mile oval Beard would be able to stretch his advantage en route to his 13th career victory with the series. Mitchell, Garrett Alberson, Zach McMillan, and Jack Sullivan completed the Top-5 finishers.
Chandler Petty started the night by registering the fastest time in qualifications with a 15.508 second lap. Unfortunately, his luck quickly went downhill from there after a lap 1 melee in his heat race forced Petty to scratch from the program. He was the recipient of the Henryetta Ford Hard Luck Award.
Texas racer, Zach McMillan received the Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger Award after advancing six positions from his 10th-starting spot to register a 4th-place finish.
Next on tap for the CCSDS is a co-sanctioned event with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) at Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Arkansas) on April 7-8. The $20,000-to-win, Bad Boy 98 will see qualifying and heat race action held on Friday evening, while Saturday night’s program will play host to B-Mains and the 98-lap finale.
