Runner-up finish with World of Outlaws at Gaffney

On Friday afternoon Shane McDowell Racing headed to Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, S.C.) as the Rock Gault Memorial weekend came to life with a pair of preliminary features. In a field of 43 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series entries, Dale followed up the 11th fastest time in his qualifying group with a third-place finish in his heat race. Receiving the pole position for the $5,000-to-win A-Main via the redraw, McDowell paced the field for the first 23 circuits until Brandon Sheppard snuck by with two-to-go, dropping McDowell back to second when the checkered flag flew. Brandon Overton, Scott Bloomquist, and Jeff Smith rounded out the Top-5 finishers in the 25-lap affair. (Robert Holman photo | DirtonDirt.com)
