T Hibner, Turner, Clancy, H Johnson headline at I-35 Speedway
By Phillip Wilson (Winston, MO) -- One hundred twelve (112) cars checked in on this Fourth of July weekend for Metcalf Car Star night at I-35 Speedway. The Poweri Midwest Lightning Sprints made a return visit to the historic 3/8 mile dirt as we get set to celebrate our nations’ 246th birthday.
First on the track was the E-mod A feature with Casey Burnett picking up his 10th feature win of the season. Kevin Rash picked a good night to return to I-35 Speedway as he would come in second. Aaron Jones had another good run finishing third. Adam Dunwoodie won the B-feature, putting him in the 17th starting position, but he would come through the field to finish fourth. Tim Parrot would get himself a top five, finishing fifth.
In Pure Stock action, Mich Ross would pick up feature win number three at I-35 Speedway. Ross would be challenged early, but in the end would pull away for the win. Tommy Luft would have a good run finishing in the second position. Evan Rhea would also have himself a good night as he finished third, followed by James Johnson and points leader Ava Dixon.
In the Poweri Midwest Lightning Sprints, the defending series champion Chase Fischer would make his second trip of the year to I-35 Speedway and pick up his second feature win of the season. Fischer would be followed by the youngsters of the group, Trice Roden and Chasity Younger. Fourth place would go to Mike Tindell and fifth to Jeff Bard.
In the Midwest Limited Late Models, Houston Johnson set his machine of the outside to slip by Paul Glendenning and pick up his second feature win of the season. Glendenning would battle back in the closing laps but finish second. Tommy Cordray would get a top three finish in the third spot, followed by Austin Johnson and Ed Noll.
In the USRA B-mods, Shadren Turner would pick up win number six on the season at I-35 Speedway. Turner would be challenged early, and again after a caution midway through, but would pull away at the end. Points leader Tyler Cadwallader, who would challenge Turner, would finish second. Corey Myers, who is in a tight battle with Cadwallader for the points lead, would finish third. Michael Taylor III would run up front all night long to finish fourth and Jake Richards would finish fifth.
The USRA Stock Car finish was one for the ages as Chad Clancy and Doug Keller swapped the lead back and fourth, with Keller taking the lead late in the race. Clancy would take the very top line coming out of turn four to pick up his first feature win of the season at I-35 Speedway. Keller would finish second. Jeff Dixon battled for the lead early but would finish in the third spot, followed by Brad Derry and Tommy Ground to round out the top five.
In the USRA Modifieds, Tyler Hibner picked up win number three on the season, once again in dominating fashion. The battle was for second and third between Lee Hibner and Houston Johnson, with Hibner finishing second and Johnson third. Fourth went to Kevin Newell and fifth to Jimmy Dowell.
The last race of the night was the 10 lap Sport Compacts A-feature as they went caution free. Eric Schmidt parked his 121 machine in McCarthy Auto Group victory lane for the first time this season at I-35 Speedway. Schmidt and Isaiah Penton would battle for the first few laps before Schmidt pulled away. Penton would hold on for second, followed by up and comer Jonathon Hartman in third, points leader Brad Mick in fourth and Alvin Cooney in fifth.
Congratulations to Fan of the Week Kylie Brull, sponsored by ASF Racing, Thurman Motorsports, Fat Cat Racing, Ryan Schaeffer Racing and Devin Saler Racing.
Join us next week for Triple H Realty night where we will celebrate the legendary Kaster family. Everyone here at I-35 Speedway would like to wish everyone a happy and safe 4th of July.
