EPJ notches fourth-place finish in Super Bowl of Racing at Golden Isles
Papich Racing pilot Earl Pearson Jr. trekked to Golden Isles Speedway (Brunswick, Ga.) on Thursday afternoon to take part in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) season opener. Drawing 47 Late Models for the Super Bowl of Racing, Earl was sent to the tail of his heat race after his qualifying times were negated due to incorrect deck height. After passing four cars to finish fifth, Pearson Jr. gained two spots in his B-Main to finish third, forcing him to rely on a provisional into the opening night feature. With $10,000 on the line, Earl passed 12 cars in the 40-lapper to finish 13th.
The following night, Pearson Jr. clocked in fourth-fastest in his time trial group before picking up a heat race win. Starting the main event in second, Earl dropped two spots to register a fourth-place finish. He followed Brandon Overton, Devin Moran, and Hudson O’Neal across the line with Tyler Bruening coming in fifth.
For the weekend finale on Sunday, Earl started the night off with a heat race victory, which positioned him sixth on the starting grid for the $15,000-to-win A-Main. Losing one spot in the 50-lap affair, Pearson Jr. posted a seventh-place finish.
With the first weekend in the books, Earl sits in seventh in the LOLMD point standings.
