Inside Line Promotions – CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (Aug. 31, 2017) – Kevin Swindell Racing was quick throughout last weekend’s Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions doubleheader at Atomic Speedway.

Driver Spencer Bayston qualified fourth quickest overall out of 46 competitors on Friday during the opening round before he ended seventh in a heat race.

“We qualified good, but got used up on the start of the heat race and were shuffled way back,” Swindell said. “That put us in the back and it laid rubber in the B Main so to get from 21st to 12th was pretty good.”

Bayston won the B Main to advance into the back of the main event, in which he picked up nine positions on a tricky track to post a 12th-place finish.

The Swindell Speed Lab backed team returned to the high-banked oval on Saturday and Bayston again showed speed from the start as he set quick time in qualifying. He then placed third in a heat race and fifth in a dash to start the main event 10th.

“We drew bad on Saturday for the dash and that put us behind,” Swindell said. “The track made it a few laps in the feature before it took rubber and we made some progress. We had to do something to try to make time before it laid rubber. Then we were too tight to do much.

“Both nights if we started in the first three rows we’d have run in the top five. When you start at the back and midpack that doesn’t help when the track ends up taking rubber. (Spencer) hadn’t raced in rubber so it was a learning experience, too.”

Bayston capped the night by placing 11th.

“Early we were really good and really fast both nights,” he said. “I think our car was really good before rubber hit. Rubber isn’t what you want to run in, but when it does hit you have to race and figure out what works. I got up to seventh on Saturday and made a mistake on a restart. I got tight and fell back a few spots. When you make a little mistake in the rubber and fall out of line you’ll get passed in a hurry.”

Kevin Swindell Racing is slated to return to action this Saturday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, and Sunday at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio. Veteran Sammy Swindell, who is Kevin’s father, will pilot the Swindell Speed Lab sponsored team during the All Star doubleheader.
