No Bones about the Florida State Bomber Champion!

No Bones about the Florida State Bomber Champion!

Saturday, 28th, 2016_ - Desoto Speedway set the mood for some action packed racing along with the crowning of the Florida State Bomber Champion. Fans were treated to a 22 car field of bombers from all over the state. After qualifying it was #57 Carl Thompson atop the leader board at 18.645, the top seven were all in the eighteen second bracket. Thompson would draw the 8 pill inverting 8 rows thus putting his potent Chevy Nova in the 16th spot for the 50 lap shootout. The fans were treated to a grandstand driver introduction and all were applauded by the packed house. #21 Josh Hall led the field to the green and a few laps later #38 Nicholas Malverty rocketed to the top spot and looked to be the class of the field. Malverty seemed to have lost power and turned over the top spot to #56 James Wright who then set the pace. Charging through the field were Thompson, Brandon “Bones” Duchscherer, Aaron Holmes and Brian Harbin. Thompson’s night would end with mechanical problems leaving the latter to duke it out. Duchscherer would opt to the outside of Wright on the front row and motor to the lead and never look back to win the Inaugural Florida State Bomber Championship. Duchscherer pocketed a cool $1000 cash along with a mystery donation from a fan of $100. Buddy Griffin’s Specialty Cooling Products also provided a way to keep his machine cool awarding him a brand new radiator. “I could really use that as my car was overheating at 300 degrees at the checkered” said Bones. Rounding out the top five were James Wright, Brian Harbin, Aaron Holmes and Jamie Castleberry.

The enduro saw 9 cars take the green flag for their 25 lap race. Josh Bridges would steal the show with only one incident between the 72 of Matt McCrary and #41 of Tony Meeks which collected the 42 of Anne Osbourne, #3 James Prochaska and #14 of Michael Meeks. The red flag was displayed and all but the #41 of Tony Meeks and Osbourne were able to continue. The #55 of Steve Majors took chase on Josh Bridges but came up short at the checkers. Bridges was your winner followed by #55 Majors, #72 McCrary, #07Trevor Appling and #14 Michael Meeks rounded out the top five.

The quad racers made their 15 lap event look easy with a few of our regulars attempted to show their quad racing talent. Brandon Martin and Matt McCrary would finish 4th and 5th respectively at their first attempt. Ted Braun would prove to be the baddest of them all capturing the win. Tony Edwards, Jonathan Gray would round out the top three.

Our novelty events claimed to be exciting, #02 Josh Bridges once again would show that he was the best of show in the Road Course event. #55 Steve Majors, #07 Trevor Appling, #14 Michael Meeks and #72 Matt McCrary would all give chase but came up short.

The flagpole race sure was a crowd pleaser as #42 Bill Osbourne set out as the early leader and watched as the small but yet potent 4 cylinders tracked his every move. #02 Josh Bridges looked as though he was going to make it a three peat along came the #07 Shawn Senokossoff who made the inside slide move on bridges to claim the win.
