Inside Line Promotions – QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. (April 25, 2017) – Joshua Shipley had high hopes entering the ASCS Southwest Region event last Saturday, but luck wasn’t in the cards at Arizona Speedway.

“I was looking forward to getting back to our home track,” he said. “I felt like we learned a lot from our two-day show in Las Cruces (earlier this month) so I thought we were going to do really well.”

Shipley and the Alan and Kaylene Verville owned team started third in an ASCS Southwest Region heat race. However, the race car was hit hard from the back on the start. Shipley survived the incident and claimed a second-place result.

“Our finish was really good because we made the top eight qualifiers,” he said. “But we realized we had a lot of work to do on the car before the feature.”

After the heat race, Shipley had some tail tank damage and had to put on a new one. He also had to replace a front wing post and the top wing as it broke internally.

“We made the redraw and drew the No. 5 for the invert,” he said. “They did some track work right before the A Main, so I was trying to feel it out the first couple laps.”

Shipley fell back a couple positions early, but once he found his groove on the track he made his way through the field. With four laps remaining, he was preparing to contend with the leader when the rear end broke, which ended his night with a 12th-place result.

“It’s kind of been the story of our season,” Shipley said. “I’m so proud of the team though. The car was fast and we had a great run until we had part problems.”

Shipley will return to action on May 6 at Arizona Speedway with the ASCS Southwest Region.
