Iron-Man Modified Series
Clayton Miller and Cory Hedgecock Gobble Up 7th Annual Leftover at 411 Motor Speedway
SEYMOUR, TENNESSEE (November 26, 2022)– The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series and Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Southern Series would complete their 2022 racing campaigns with the 7th Annual Leftover at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN on Saturday. Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, TN would score his second straight Leftover victory and claim the $5,000 to win Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series main event. Clayton Miller of Elkton, KY would lead all twenty-five laps of the Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Southern Series feature contest and claim the $1,500 payday.
The victory by the 30-year-old Hedgecock would be his third series win of the season and ninth career Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series victory and would come behind the wheel of a Black Diamond Race Car powered by an Eagle Race Engine with sponsorship from E-Z-GO, Eagle Race Engines, Voo Doo Technology, Pace Performance, K and P Used Cars, Budget Transmissions, I-75 Raceway, Green’s Recycling, W.E. Hardscape and Masonry, Circle H Service, Noble Knights Construction Service, Hickory Hardscapes, and Cobb’s Auto Parts.
For 40-year-old Miller, it would be his first Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Series victory of the season and his ninth career series victory and came aboard a Brucebilt Chassis powered by a Wesley Henley Race Engine with sponsorship from Elliott Motorsports, Hustler Bryant Equipment, Morris Wall Construction, Tommy’s Quality Used Cars, Wilson’s Printworks, American Racer, and Brucebilt Performance Parts.
Booger Brooks and Chase Oliver would bring the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series 7th Annual Leftover to the green flag, with Brooks taking the race lead, followed by Oliver, Cory Hedgecock, Mack McCarter, and Russell Erwin. Michael Chilton would grab fifth from Erwin on lap three, while Hedgecock would grab the second position from Oliver on lap five. Oliver, McCarter, and Chilton would battle three-wide for the third position before McCarter claimed third and Chilton would take fourth on lap seven, with Erwin taking from Oliver one circuit later. The top five remained the same as Brooks began to approach the rear of the field, with Hedgecock closing the distance on Brooks. As the lead duo began lapping traffic on lap sixteen, Hedgecock would take the race lead from Brooks. The lead pair would work heavy traffic at this point, allowing McCarter to reel in Brooks, while Erwin would take fourth from Chilton on lap eighteen. McCarter would claim the runner-up slot from Brooks on lap twenty, while the first caution of the event waved on lap twenty-two when fourth place Erwin would spin in turn four and make contact with a uke tire on the inside of the track, ending his race. Hedgecock would command the field on the restart, with Brooks taking second from McCarter, followed by Chilton and ninth-place stater Jed Emert. The second and final caution of the race waved on lap twenty-five as Chase King would spin in turn four. Hedgecock would get a great restart, with McCarter reclaiming the second position from Brooks, while Emert would snag the fourth position away from Chilton. Emert would continue his charge and take the third position from Brooks on lap twenty-seven. Meanwhile, Hedgecock would open a comfortable lead up front, but would have to work lapped traffic beginning on lap thirty-six. McCarter would close a bit, but Hedgecock would go unchallenged the rest of the way to claim the win, with McCarter second and Emert third. Brooks and Chilton would complete the top five. Thirteenth place starter Adam Ahl would charge to finish sixth, with Joe Leavell, Trever Feathers, Jason Manley, and Cameron Weaver completing the top ten finishers.
The start of the Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Southern Series feature would see a caution on the opening lap for a three-car tangle in turn one, with everyone able to continue. The second attempted start would go much better and Clayton Miller would take the lead, with Brandon Hutchinson, Lucas Lee, Peyton Harlow, and Wayne James in pursuit. Jacob Hall would take fifth from James on lap two, while Hutchinson pressured Miller. The first caution of the event flew on lap five when Jamie Mosley, Skylar Douglas, and Reece Ogle would tangle on the frontchute, with Mosley done for the night. The restart would see the front five of Miller, Hutchinson, Lee, Harlow, and Hall remain the same and they would run in this order until the caution appeared again on lap thirteen when Joe Freels would slow in turn two. Miller would receive a challenge from Hutchinson on the restart, with Miller maintaining lead, while Hall would begin to pressure Harlow for the fourth position and take the spot on lap fifteen. The final caution of the race came on lap seventeen for Jeff Hamby’s slowed mount on the backchute. Miller would get a good restart and hold the lead, while Hutchinson, Lee, Hall, and Harlow gave chase. Brandon Kinzer would challenge Harlow for the fifth position and make his way into the top five on lap twenty-one. Miller would maintain the lead and see the checkered flag first, followed by Hutchinson, Lee, Hall, and Kinzer. Harlow would finish sixth, while Chris Wilson, Ben Harmon, sixteenth place starter Ben Petrey, and Zac Harris completing the top ten.
