Inside Line Promotions – SOMERTON, Ariz. (Nov. 24, 2015) – Terry McCarl is the latest standout driver to commit to racing throughout the 2nd annual Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown next January at Cocopah Speedway.
“I raced there with the World of Outlaws in 1991 at what was then called Yuma Speedway,” he said. “I didn’t win. I know that. I was driving for Country Builders Construction out in California. They are still a big part of my career today.”
McCarl said he watched the Pay-Per-View of last year’s inaugural 410ci sprint car event and decided he couldn’t miss the 2016 edition of the Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown – held Jan. 1-2, Jan. 5 and Jan. 8-9.
“I’ve been watching the 360 shows (on TV) and of course the Winter Heat last year,” he said. “It looks like they do a great job with the race track. I was chomping at the bit sitting at home last year. It looked like a great race. I like being part of big events.”
The payout is another bonus, McCarl said. The Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown features $12,000-to-win, $1,000-to-start races on Jan. 1-2 and Jan. 8-9 with a $5,000-to-win midweek event on Jan. 5.
“It’s a great payday,” he said. “I think it’s a great opportunity for us. The track is a good track and didn’t seem like it was burning the tires off every night. They really did a nice job of running it. Having Tommie Estes involved is always good. I think it will grow and grow.
“We’re from Iowa. Any reason to get out of cold weather and be in Yuma, where now you have a race and a casino nearby, we’re looking forward to it. We’re trying to come up with some sponsorship for Austin to come race, too.”
A tentative driver roster of competitors who have either sent in preregistration forms or verbally committed to competing is posted at http://CocopahWinterHeat.com/fan-info/driver-roster/.
