Wilson on top of Challenge Series, again.

Wilson on top of Challenge Series, again.

Murfreesboro, AR - Blake Wilson and what has become THE18SHOW held off a strong Lonestar contingent to lay victory to his second straight ModLite Challenge Series presented by Super Clean this past Saturday at the Diamond Park Speedway in Murfreesboro, Arkansas.

Wilson’s Arch Street Wheel and Tire/Randy Doughty Motorsports/Work Harder Gym TWR chassis was the nights top qualifier in passing points going from 9th to second in his heat and that landed him front row with his dad, Jeromy Wilson and his TWR sponsored #88. The elder Wilson turned fast time of the night at a blistering 16.176 on the red clay speed plant better known as ‘The Park’.

A strong field of competitors including national STARS/IMCA points leader Kaden Cochrun, Texas’ own Willie Veach Jr.., Dawson Fisher, Aubrey Taylor, Jason Reavis, Joe Butler Jr and the lone entry from the Volunteer state was Cookeville, TN driver Ronnie Choate.

The 25 lap A main paid $1,000 to the winner and a possible $400 additional ‘bounty’ if they could beat Wilson or track regular Big Daddy James Rollins.

At the drop of the green flag Wilson took a commanding lead and never really looked back. A couple of early race cautions sent some top competitors pit side for mechanical issues as Jeromy Wilson’s #88 had fuel leakage, Cochrun got caught up in the aftermath of a terrifying flip involving the 47 of Rollins. Rollins walked away unharmed and gave credit to car builder Shon Sanders and his Sidewinder chassis for its robust safety.

At midway it was Wilson, Aubrey Taylor and his Evolution Racing Chassis #10, and local Cameron Wagner’s #42 Big O Motorsports Genesis and JJ Borden in his B & J Trucking #78. Borden’s car fell off the pace momentarily and Jason Reavis and Dawson Fisher assumed that battle for fifth. A few additional single car cautions and an eventual flip, roll over, and re-fire by Joseph McIntyre, were the only time anyone was close to the bumper of The 18 Show.

The races hard charger was the LR8 of Choate as he advanced into the show from a B Main and cruised through the field to a second place finish. Wagner rebounded from a late race shuffle to come home third and Taylor was the final tech spot in fourth.

Jason Reavis, Dawson Fisher, JJ Borden, Steve Sweere, McIntyre, and Willie Veach, Jr. rounded out the top 10.

Full race finishes available on MyRacePass.

Next up for the ModLite Challenge Series is the 4th installment of the (5) race series on October 2nd where the bounty will be increased to a possible $800 or more if you can beat Wilson at his new favorite home.
