Mechanical issue spoils Robinson's season opener at Volusia
Setting his sights on the warmer temperatures of Florida, Ross Robinson headed south to Volusia Speedway Park (De Leon Springs, Fla.) to kick off his 2024 season on Friday with the rain-shortened DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals.
After Thursday’s opener fell to wet weather, Ross qualified 17th-fastest in his 28-car group on Friday before placing fifth in his heat. Needing to finish second or better in his B-Main to make the opener, Robinson came one spot shy with a third-place outing.
The team discovered an issue overnight with Ross’ primary car that gave his wife Amanda the opportunity to pilot her Commonwealth Equipment No. 4 Late Model on Saturday. She took part in time trials and her heat race, but eventually scratched from her B-Main following an eighth-place heat result.
