DIRTcar Nationals brings Benedum to Volusia Speedway Park
Mike Benedum continued his 2023 Speedweeks trek by competing at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) for the DIRTcar Nationals.
With qualifying grouped into heat races, Benedum recorded a good qualifying lap but fell back in his heat race to finish sixth. Starting on the pole of the B-Main, Mike battled hard but ultimately fell short of making the A-Main.
The following night, Mike lined up on the second row for his B-Main after a fifth-place finish in his heat. With one more chance to make the main event, Benedum fell back to sixth and did not transfer to the A-Main.
With the field split into three $5,000-to-win features on Wednesday, Benedum started his feature from the fourth row and pulled off early to record a 16th-place finish.
On Thursday evening as the remainder of the week became World of Outlaws Case Construction Late Model Series sanctioned, Benedum gained one spot in heat race before heading to a B-Main. Mike recorded a 10th-place finish, eight positions away from a transfer spot.
On Friday, Benedum recorded only his qualifying lap before weather moved into the area and cancelled the evening's events.
With the DIRTcar Nationals wrapping up on Saturday, Mike ran eighth in his heat race which positioned him to make one last bid at making the feature in his B-Main. Starting from the fifth row, Benedum was unable to make up any spots and missed the A-Main.
