Podium finish in night one of Sunshine Nationals

Making the nine-hour trek south, Cory Hedgecock returned with the Crate Racin’ USA Winter Shootout Series on Thursday evening at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) for the three-day Sunshine Nationals. In a massive field of 82 cars, Cory clocked in fourth-fastest in his qualifying group before picking up a 10-lap heat race win. Rolling off sixth for the $1,500-to-win A-Main, Hedgecock improved three spots to register a third-place finish. He followed Mark Whitener and Shan Smith to the checkers. On Saturday, Hedgecock posted a second-place finish in his heat, which positioned him 12th on the starting grid for the A-Main. A late-night shower postponed the feature to Saturday.

Overnight rain and unfavorable forecast postponed Friday’s feature to February 7th and axed Saturday’s event.
