Drake Troutman begins DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park

Kicking off the 50th annual DIRTcar Nationals on Tuesday, Drake Troutman invaded Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) to compete in a stout field of 92 DIRTcar Modifieds. Following the eighth fastest lap in his time trial group, Troutman scored a second place finish in his heat behind Curt Spalding, which locked him into the 16th-starting position for the opening night feature. With $1,000 on the line, Drake faded seven spots late in the 20-lapper to finish 23rd. (Josh James Artwork)

On Wednesday afternoon, Drake was challenging for the lead in his heat but slipped over the berm late to finish third. Starting the $1,000-to-win A-Main in ninth, Troutman dropped seven spots to record a 16th-place outing.

The following night for round three of the 50th annual DIRTcar Nationals, Troutman posted the sixth fastest lap in his time trial group before placing second in his heat behind Kenny Wallace. Earning the seventh-starting position for the A-Main, Drake dropped three spots in the 20-lap affair to finish 10th.

For five rounds of preliminary features on Friday, Drake earned the sixth-starting position for the $700-to-win feature via point standings leading up to Friday. After challenging for a podium finish early, Troutman ran into mechanical issues on the sixth lap that sidelined him for the remainder of the evening.

After Mother Nature shifted Saturday night’s program to Sunday, Troutman laid down the 11th fastest time in his group before placing third in his heat. With $700 on the line in the feature, Drake limped across the line in 27th with rear-end issues hampering throughout the 20-lapper.
