Shane Clanton begins DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia

Monday night saw Shane Clanton return to action in The Sunshine State at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) for the 50th annual DIRTcar Nationals. In a field
of 51 cars, Shane recorded a fifth place finish in his heat, transferring him into the B-Main for another shot at the opening night feature. Locking the Top 2 into the show, Clanton came one spot short with a third-place outing.

For another $7,000-to-win A-Main on Tuesday, Clanton came one spot short of a transfer position in his heat with a fourth place finish, sending him into the B-Main. Grabbing the second and final transfer spot, Shane earned the 22nd-starting position for the main event. Losing one spot in the 30-lap affair, Clanton recorded a 23rd-place finish.

On Wednesday night as the remainder of the weekend shifted under the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series banner, Shane failed to transfer out of his heat race and B-Main, forcing him to rely on a provisional into the A-Main. With $10,000 on the line, Clanton improved 10 spots in the 40-lapper to register a 25th-place outing.

The following night, Clanton scored the third and final transfer spot in his heat, which positioned him 18th on the starting grid for the $10,000-to-win A-Main. After getting caught in a tangle on the opening lap, Shane charged from the tail of the field to come home 10th when the checkered flag flew. (Michael Boggs Photography)

With the field reduced to 38 cars on Friday evening, Shane came in fifth in his heat before grabbing the third and final transfer spot in his B-Main. Starting the feature in 22nd, Clanton dropped two positions in the 40-lap affair to finish 24th.

Persistent rain overnight on Friday wiped out Saturday night’s finale.
