Thunderbird Speedway Driver of the week!
Justin Green
Age: 37
#55 Factory Stock
Sponsors: Wings To Go (Owasso), BMS Racing Engines
Home town: Mounds, Ok.
Racing, was a lesson learned by watching some of the greats. Mark Neal and Keith Campbell were the study. Justin was told to watch how other racers presented themselves on and off the track, by his Father and Uncle. Both raced at the Tulsa fairgrounds.
At age 14, Justin cut his teeth at Creek County Speedway, in a Factory Stock. He would also get behind the wheel of mini stocks, modifieds, and latemodels. Justin’s first win was at CCS in a modified, he had a year under his belt, and in 2002 he rattled off a few wins in his Lester Davis Chassis, “That was pretty big for us”.
Its always been “hard work and respect” that keeps everything going. With the kids in sports now, Justin only gets a handful of chances to race throughout the year. “Its just a hobby, we have really found a home in these full body cars”. Justin gets help from a few buddies, and they work on the car at home in the shop. Blake, Justin’s son, is the fourth generation to drive a racecar, he started driving in some indoor go kart events in 2017. Justin hopes to ingrain the lessons he learned from his mentors into his son, “Whether its baseball or racing, being respectful, shaking people hands, and looking them in the eye”, Justin said.
When there is no racing and no sports, Justin likes to relax with the family. He might sit on the back porch enjoying the view, or take his hot rod to town for cruse and a burger. You can tell that the 37 year old really enjoys life, and the time he gets to spend with his family.
