Thunderbird Speedway
The Historic Thunderbird to be NASCAR in 2018
The 2018 season for The Historic Thunderbird Speedway is proud to announce that we will be a sanctioned NASCAR Home Track and a part of the Whelen All-American weekly racing series. This will have great implications for driver who seek national recognition on NASCARS most diverse racing platform. This also bring more driver and track recognition to the state of Oklahoma which is already one of the best know states for racing in the nation. With our partners Salina Highbanks Speedway and Humboldt Speedway we are sure to have an impact on the national picture giving drivers in our state and area more opportunities to showcase their abilities. At this time only Divisions I A-Mods, Division II B-Mods and Division III Super Stocks will be sanctioned. We are working towards Division IV sanctioning and will have more news as soon as possible. We look forward to our partnership with Salina Highbanks as NASCARHomeTrack and what it means for racing in Oklahoma. More information about the NASCARHomeTracks will be coming soon that will effect both drivers and fans!
We will kick the season off April 6th with NASCAR Whelen Opening Night Points Race. Slated for the 13th is the 1st Annual Azalea Nationals, this is a Points race and will be followed on the 14th and 15th by the the 1st Annual Azalea Flat Track Nationals. This will be the season opener for the VDTRA and Grand Prix Hot Shoe Flat Track Motorcycles. April 20th we will be back to weekly points racing and to finish the month off with the Late Models of the Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) They will bring their unique speed and thunder to Thunderbird.
All four of the Friday nights under the lights in May will be dedicated to points racing as our drivers compete for a coveted track championship and bragging rights that come with a championship at the Historic Thunderbird Speedway. 14 Points Races are scheduled with the possibility of more that could be added later in the year if needed.
June will kick off with three NASCAR Whelen Points Racing. The Sprint Cars of OCRS will hit the track on June 22nd &23rd for The Harold Leep Classic and makes its appearance at the very track the multi time Hall of Fame Leep raced and promoted at for many years. The Classic will be a two day show featuring not only sprint cars but both modified class and stock car classes we host each regular points week.
July will heat up with the Independence Modified Clash powered by Bravado Wireless. This year the Clash will be a two day event focusing on the A-Modifieds but will also have B-mods, Super Stocks and Pure Stocks battling for championship points. July 14th will be a date to set to come see the mud slinging mayhem of the Mega Trucks Mud Drags as they put on a spectacular show in the soon to be constructed truck jumps and mud pits in the in field of the Bird!
After a short three week summer vacation break August starts off with a Monster of a show on Friday the 3rd and then again on Saturday the 4th. Big Kahuna, Big Chief, Jailbird, Buckshot and Nitro Menace just to name a few of the monster trucks that have signed on to be apart of the Monster Thunder Madness at the Thunderbird. We will also have a monster truck on hand giving rides to give fans a true up close and personal experience like no other. We will see one more points racing in August with the Back to school night on the 17th.
September will be reserved for any last make up races we will need to run to wrap up our local state and national points championships. Then the Big finally for racing, The Midwest Dirt Track National September 27th, 28th and 29th. Super Late Models along with the regular class will compete for hardware, money and bragging rights to find the best in the Midwest! There are a few more things that we will keep under our hats for now will be released soon!
Great things are coming to the 2018 season at Thunderbird and we will be adding events and title sponsors to our event soon! We at looking forward to making many new updates to the facility and we hope you plan to be greatest and best part of it all!
