Night 3 of the FYE Motorsports MTH Modified Nationals is Completed in Full Even With the Threat of Rain in the Region.

Ogilvie, MN (May 25) – With a lengthy rain shower before races, a few sprinkles during the show, and threat of more rain over the course of the evening, the FYE Motorsports’ Minnesota Truck Headquarters Modified Nationals powered by Wehrs Machine and Superior Fuel beat the odds and completed the race event in it’s entirety. Nearly 100 drivers signed in Saturday night for some WISSOTA Dirt Track Race Action with Shane Sabraski, Dexton Koch, Jason VandeKamp, Tommy Bawden and Randy Jacoboski taking home the big checks.

Corey Mehrwerth and Wyatt Boyum took their places on row one as the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds kicked off the night’s features, and as the race began, Mehrwerth snagged the lead. Boyum held second with Jason VandeKamp at his side. Drivers raced three and nearly four wide on the track surface with Mehrwerth still in command. A few laps passed as VandeKamp secured the second point and chased after the leader. VandeKamp tracked down Mehrwerth’s #27 and was at his side. Mehrwerth and VandeKamp battled for first as they drove by slower cars and went three wide in the traffic. VandeKamp broke away with the lead, however they were still in traffic and Mehrwerth kept close. VandeKamp put space between him and Mehrwerth with a few laps to go, and Jason VandeKamp continued on and took the win. Corey Mehrwerth, Cole Boston, Jake Smith and Wyatt Boyum rounded out the top five drivers.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks were next on the schedule with Shane Sabraski and Dexton Koch on row one. As the green waved, Koch sped off in the lead with Sabraski and Cole Chernosky in tow. Koch quickly established a good lead as Sabraski also separated from the field. As the top two sped away, Chernosky felt the heat of Denis Czech to his rear. A couple laps passed with Chernosky and Czech nose to nose for third, but Chernosky pulled ahead of the #2 of Czech. By this time, Koch encountered slower traffic and Sabraski began to close the gap. Koch and Sabraski were in lapped traffic the final couple laps, however Dexton Koch didn’t lose his position and took the double checkers. Remaining top points went to Shane Sabraski, Denis Czech, Cole Chernosky and Jordan Hinkemeyer.

Shane Sabraski and Clayton Wagamon battled side by side when the WISSOTA Modifieds took the green, with other racers going three and nearly four wide for positions. Cars filled the track from the high to low groove as a caution was triggered. A couple cautions kept the drivers slow, but as the race resumed, Sabraski was in the lead. Wagamon and Landon Atkinson battled for second as other drivers again raced three wide for points. Atkinson took second and raced high along the wall to try and reel in Sabraski. Sabraski and Atkinson had a solid lead over the other drivers as they caught the tail of the field. It didn’t take long for the leaders to be in heavy lapped traffic, and Sabraski could feel the pressure of Atkinson with laps winding down. Shane Sabraski however made his way through the traffic, held the lead, and took the win. Landon Atkinson settled for second with JT Johnson, Kennedy Swan and Jeremy Nelson (06) as the top five drivers.

The WISSOTA Mod Fours took the clay for the next event, and as the green waved, Tyler Larson, Robert Holtquist and Tommy Bawden raced three-wide for first. Bawden claimed the point and sped away while Connor Hass and Jordan Fischer took second and third. Drivers began to space out with Bawden in command when the battle for second began to heat up. Fischer moved to Hass’ side while Tyler Larson and Dustin Holtquist joined the drivers. Fischer, Hass, Larson and D. Holtquist raced very close for points two through five when Fischer’s car spun and the yellow waved. The field was reset putting Bawden back with his competition, however he was unphased by the realignment, and sped away again when the green waved. Hass, Larson and D. Holtquist resumed their three-way fight for second, and raced that way until the checkers flew. Points two through five went to Tyler Larson, Connor Hass, Dustin Holtquist and Jordan Fischer while Tommy Bawden got the win.

The WISSOTA Hornets wrapped up the night’s events with Bobie Arnes and Jenna Hagemann in a fight for first. The top two drivers remained glued to one another as the laps passed. Arnes edged out the lead a couple of times, however Hagemann kept close and didn’t let Arnes get away. The top two drivers remained door-to-door, and on the final lap, they caught a slower car. As they went down the back-chute, contact occurred between Arnes and Hagemann collecting both leaders in the infield. Arnes was the charge for the caution and drivers were realigned with Hagemann in the top point. Randy Jacoboski, Cade Johnson and Hagemann went three wide as the race resumed, and Jacoboski nosed out the lead. Randy Jacoboski led the final lap of the race, and took his first feature win ever. Cade Johnson finished second and Jenna Hagemann took third, while all other drivers were scored as DNF’s.

With the final checkers waving, night three of the Modified Nationals was in the books before Mother Nature had any impact. The fourth and final night of the race event will resume Sunday Night at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway and one driver is still eligible for the sweep bonus by winning each night’s features. Dexton Koch in the Super Stocks is that driver, and we will find out Sunday night if he gets it. In addition to the sweep bonus, there is also the opportunity for the overall point champion in the Modifieds to get the provisional starting spot into the $100,001 Big Deal event next weekend at Mississippi Thunder. Currently, JT Johnson holds a 10 point lead over Mike Anderson, and the winner of that challenge will also be determined Sunday night at the close of the FYE Motorsports’ Modified Nationals. This is an event you will not want to miss, racing will resume at 7:00pm at the Big O.
