Jimmy Mars Races to Win Night 1 of XR Northern Storm Series at the Ogilvie Raceway.

Ogilvie, MN (July 18) – The XR Northern Storm kicked off their weeklong series at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway on Monday night. Mother nature threatened the night’s plan of events, but once again, the Big O completed the show with Jimmy Mars, Brennan Gave and Clayton Wagamon claiming wins.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were the first feature of the night with Brennan Gave and Chad Switzenberg on the front row. Gave claimed the immediate lead as the green waved and Switzenberg held second. Switzenberg drifted high in the curve which allowed Cole Chernosky to steal the point. As drivers began to space out on the race surface the yellow light flickered on. A couple of cautions slowed the drivers, but Gave remained in command when the race resumed. Chernosky dove low aside Gave for the top point but Gave held the position. Zach Benson slid into third and snuck by Chernosky with few laps to go. Chernosky didn’t let Benson out of his sight as they continued to chase after the leader. Brennan Gave kept his foot down and took the checkers in his #112. Zach Benson, Cole Chernosky, Jake Smith and Ashley Mehrwerth grabbed top points.
Dan Ebert and Clayton Wagamon led the WISSOTA Modifieds around the track, and as the race began, J.T. Johnson raced to their doors. The battle for first was three wide with the drivers swapping for the position. Wagamon dropped to third while Johnson and Ebert remained door to door. Ebert, Johnson and Wagamon continued to race three wide in the turns as Wagamon squeezed his way by the others. The yellow then flew for a driver who had spun which put Ebert and Ryan Gierke right on Wagamon’s rear. Wagamon sped off with the lead while Ebert and Gierke fought for second. Johnson came back to battle for the runner up point as the laps went by. A handful of laps remained as drivers began to settle into positions and the checkers were raised. Clayton Wagamon took the win with JT Johnson, Dan Ebert, Jody Bellefeuille and Shane Sabraski in the top five.
42 WISSOTA Late Models signed into Ogilvie Monday night, but only 25 were scheduled to start the feature. Jimmy Mars, Cole Searing and Jon Tollakson snagged first, second and third as the green flew, and Mars built an immediate lead. Laps went by as drivers battled for points, and as they hit the ten-lap mark, Mars was with slower traffic. Cars covered the whole race surface with Mars secure in the lead. Searing, Tollakson, Danny Vang and Harry Hanson raced in positions two through five and as they encountered slower traffic. The racers regrouped as Tollakson dropped low on the track to pass Searing. Searing however weaved his way around the slower drivers first to hold second. Drivers settled into their positions and raced the 3/8 oval as the laps went by, until the checkers waved. Jimmy Mars led the caution free race from flag to flag and took the win with Cole Searing, Jon Tollakson, Harry Hanson and Danny Vang as top finishers.
Next Saturday, the Fastlane WISSOTA Super Stock Series makes their stop by the Ogilvie Raceway and will be accompanied by the WISSOTA Modifieds, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mod Fours and Hornets. Racing will begin at 6:30pm.
