Mod Wars Wraps Up with Jake Timm Grabbing the Custom Made Mod Wars Trophy

Ogilvie, MN (July 16) – Mother Nature threw a wrench at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway on Saturday night as rain started to fall just after Modified qualifying time trials were completed, but against all odds, racing resumed and night three of Mod Wars was completed. An impressive 130 drivers were ready for the night of WISSOTA Dirt Race Series action as Cole Chernosky, Tommy Bawden and Justin Schelitzche visited victory lane and Jake Timm earned himself the coveted Mod Wars trophy.

Tony Bahr took the lead point at the end of lap one in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds feature while David Swearingen slid into second. Swearingen raced to Bahr’s door and they were nose to nose for the lead. Contact occurred between the leaders, but both kept their cars going. Bahr and Swearingen swapped back and forth as a caution reset the field. Swearingen brought the drivers back to green but Bahr kept close. Cole Chernosky, who started 11th, made his way into the top five and challenged Brennan Gave for third. After another caution, drivers were three and four wide on the race surface including Bahr and Chernosky as they put pressure on Swearingen. Chernosky moved low on the race surface and snuck by Swearingen with just two laps to go. As the drivers entered turns one and two, a driver suffered a mechanical break resulting in contact, spin outs and the fence getting damaged. The race went red, and when it resumed, Cole Chernosky didn’t let anyone by and took the checkered flags. David Swearingen, Travis Schulte, Brandon Mehrwerth and Brennan Gave grabbed points two through five.

It was now time for the Mod Wars Modified feature event and 27 drivers took the track. Jake O’Neil and Dylan Thornton brought the drivers to green and O’Neil shot into the early lead. Tanner Mullens and Thornton snagged positions two and three while others battled three wide on the clay. Contact occurred in turn three, but drivers were able to keep their cars moving, so no caution was called. Within a few laps, cars covered the entire race surface and O’Neil prepared to battle slower traffic. Jake Timm passed Terry Phillips for third and began to chase down Mullens. Timm moved to the low groove, grabbed the second point, and hunted down O’Neil. With only five laps to go, O’Neil was still in command however he was encountering more traffic. O’Neil went to avoid a slower driver but hit a soft spot on the track and his car darted for the wall. O’Neil straightened out and kept the car moving so no caution was called and Timm assumed the lead. The only caution of the 42 lap event happened with just two laps to go, and the drivers were restacked with Timm, O’Neil and Mullens in the top points. The green waved and drivers went three and four wide to earn those final finishing positions, but Jake Timm held the lead and took the win. Jake O’Neil, Tanner Mullens, Dereck Ramirez and Zack VanderBeek rounded out the top five.

The WISSOTA Hornets buzzed their way onto the clay with Alex Aderman and Joe Wilber on the front row. As the green waved, Justin Schelitzche joined the top two and they raced three wide. Wilber edged out the lead with Colton Trembath racing three wide with Aderman and Schelitzche. Schelitzche secured the second point and chased after Wilber. The top two drivers had a good lead established as Schelitzche made the pass for first. A quick caution reset the field and as Schelitzche drove away, Jamie Ammerman, Wilber, Trembath and Aderman raced nearly four wide for second. Contact then occurred on the back stretch and the #11B of Rachel Boston hit the wall and rolled. The race went red, and with few laps to go, Schelitzche retook the green and continued to snag the checkers. Positions two through five were claimed by Colton Trembath, Alex Aderman, Joe Wilber and Jesse Turnvall.

The WISSOTA Mod Fours wrapped up the night’s race action with Nick McCann and Keith Tourville bringing the drivers to the stand. Tourville took the lead with Robert Holtquist and McCann in tow. Drivers quickly spread out and covered the race surface as Tourville prepared to lap a driver. Holtquist tracked down Tourville and Tommy Bawden also closed in. Bawden and Holtquist put pressure on Tourville and Bawden slid by for the top point. A caution was triggered with few laps to go as Holtquist spun on the front stretch. After a couple tough restarts, the Mod Fours wrapped up their final laps with Keith Tourville, Tyler Larson, Tommy Pogones and Dustin Holtquist finishing in top points and Tommy Bawden took the win.

With the conclusion of the Mod Fours, the Mod Wars race event was in the books after three straight nights of racing. The Ogilvie Raceway will be back in action this upcoming week with races both on Monday July 18th and Saturday July 23rd. On Monday the 18th, we will welcome the XR Northern Storm and kick off their five day race series. WISSOTA Late Models, Modifieds and Midwest Modifieds will be in attendance on Monday night and racing will begin at 7pm. Then on Saturday the 23rd, we are back for our regular scheduled race night with the addition of the Fastlane WISSOTA Super Stock series. Racing will be at our normal time of 6:30pm on Saturday night and we look forward to seeing you at the Big O!
