Ogilvie Raceway beats Mother Nature and Completes a Full Night of Race Action!
Ogilvie, MN (June 26) – It was Meet the Drivers night at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway and as Mother Nature caused many tracks in the region to cancel, the Big O was able to complete a full night of WISSOTA Dirt Track Race action. Even with sprinkles falling here and there throughout the night, Parker Anderson, Jason VandeKamp, Dexton Koch, Dave Cain, Tommy Bawden and Nicholas Krattenmaker went home victorious.
Kyle Howland claimed the early lead when the WISSOTA Street Stocks took the green and Jeff Nowak and Jeff Ekdahl battled for second. Nowak nosed ahead of Ekdahl and began to close in on Howland. Just then, Howland pulled his #05 into the infield and Nowak assumed the lead. A couple cautions slowed the Streeters, but when the green reappeared, Nowak, Dustin Doughty and Parker Anderson were three wide for first. Anderson made his move into the lead with Doughty in second. Doughty then pulled his #D1 into the infield with only two laps to go. Anderson led the final laps and took the checkers with Jeff Nowak, Russell Kostreba, Andrew Hanson and Jeff Ekdahl as the top drivers.
As the green dropped for the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Jason VandeKamp, Cole Boston and Zach Benson raced three wide for the lead. VandeKamp shot out of the curve in first with Benson and Matt Baker in tow. As the top three drivers separated from the pack, the yellow waved. After a few cautions, the race resumed with VandeKamp, Benson and Baker still the top three to beat. As they sped away, Benson rode VandeKamp’s bumper. As the driver exited turn two, Baker’s car came to a slow on the backstretch and the yellow flag waved. VandeKamp remained in command however Benson and Travis Schulte applied pressure. Benson ran low and Schulte raced the wall as they battled side by side for second. With the white flag raised, VandeKamp pulled away from the drivers and took the win. Travis Schulte grabbed second while Zach Benson, Nick Ayotte and Shane Howell snagged top points.
Jared Zimpel and Dylan Kromschroeder brought the WISSOTA Super Stocks out for the next feature event, and when the green waved, Zimpel sped off with the lead. Kurt Becken and Dexton Koch challenged Kromschroeder for second, and after a three-wide battle, Koch took the point. Koch began to chase Zimpel, however Zimpel pulled his #27 into the infield and Koch assumed the lead. Shane Sabraski made his way through the traffic and passed Kromschroeder for third. Sabraski began to chase down Becken for second, and after a few laps, Sabraski took the point. Laps went by with Koch in the lead, but with a few to go, Sabraski had closed the gap. Dexton Koch didn’t let off the gas and snagged the win with Shane Sabraski, Kurt Becken, Dylan Kromschroeder and Josh Zimpel as the top finishers.
As sprinkles began to develop, Chris Mensen, Jody Bellefeuille and Dave Cain grabbed the top three points when the WISSOTA Modified feature began. Bellefeuille worked the inside line and challenged Mensen for first, but Mensen held the point. Bellefeuille and Cain remained glued to Mensen as Bellefeuille made his move. Bellefeuille dove low, then slid up to snag the lead, however Cain shot by his competitors and stole first. Bellefeuille came back to challenge Cain, however Cain held the point. Shane Sabraski had made his way into third and moved in to battle with Bellefeuille. Sabraski took second and began to chase down Cain. With four laps to go, Sabraski was right behind Cain’s #2C. Sabraski tried the low groove, he slid to the high line, however he could not get by Cain. Dave Cain remained in command and took the win with Shane Sabraski, Landon Atkinson, Jody Bellefeuille and Jeremy Nelson (4) rounding out the top points.
Connor Hass and Garrett Masurka led the WISSOTA Mod Fours to the stand, however as they drivers sped off, it was Tommy Pogones and Tommy Bawden in a battle for first. After some side-by-side racing, Pogones nosed ahead with the lead, however Bawden kept close. Bawden snuck by Pogones for the top point and pulled away. As laps went by, Pogones didn’t let Bawden out of his sight, and when they caught slower cars, Pogones was right behind him. Pogones couldn’t get another pass in before the checkers appeared, and Tommy Bawden rolled his #TB81 into victory lane. Tommy Pogones settled in second with, Skyler Smith, Robert Holtquist and Dean Larson as the top five drivers.
With rain getting closer to the track, the WISSOTA Hornets rolled out for the final feature. Nicholas Krattenmaker claimed the top point as the race began with John Aderman and Justin Schelitzche in the top three. Mac Johnston moved past Schelitzche for third and began to challenge Aderman as a caution occurred. The Hornets were able to get a few more laps in between cautions and it was Krattenmaker who continued to lead the way. Schelitzche, Aderman and Joseph Wilber battled three wide for second as Johnston joined in. Wilber moved ahead with the point while Johnston claimed third with few laps to go. Nicholas Krattenmaker led the race from start to finish and took the Win. Joseph Wilber, Mac Johnston, Justin Schelitzche and Alex Aderman rounded out the top five.
Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway will take next weekend off from racing, however we will be back in action on Saturday July 10th for the Fireworks Spectacular. The night will also feature the Steffes Street Stock tour and racing will resume at 6:30pm.
